It's been years since I've been on this forum. Past arguments with other members aside, I must post my experience with zero/very low carb to try and balance the scales.

I tried this diet 2 times. I tried it once from May 7 of 2007 until abot December of 2007. The first time I did this I have to admit I did not eat enough fat and ate too much protein. I originally started this diet because of serious reactive hypoglycemia issues, not weight loss. I had an enormous amount of insulin in my blood and already had diabetic complications piling up.

I ate all flesh meat. I tried adding in more fat the first go around but found that I couldn't stomach it. It made me sick to my stomach.

The first time my blood sugar improved dramatically, although not totally. Diabetic complications also improved. However, I developed a nasty case of hives on my chest, neck and eventually on the back of my head. It was very itchy, and painful. I had no idea what caused it, and this is what eventually led me to stop the diet, primarily. Also, I believe, because of a lack of supplementation my thyroid and adrenals suffered. Around October or so I found it very difficult to speak and had severe cold sensitivity.

So I gave up the diet for a few years. Hypoglycemia returned, and diabetic complications also returned.

Recently I decided to give it one more try, except this time eating much more fat and much more moderate protein levels.

My blood sugar problems immediately disappeared. Diabetic complications also gone. However, the rash also returned. Even worse than the last time.

At first it was red meat and butter with a little bit of lettuce. I decided maybe I have a sensitivity to red meat, so I tried all eggs and butter with no lettuce. The rash got much more severe with this idea and I began forming very painful welts on my hands, lips and feet. I couldn't walk one day this past week it was so painful.

Then I went back to the red meat thinking I had developed an egg allergy. No. The welts and rash were just as severe.

The last couple of days I've gone back to a mixed diet, still lower in carbs and higher in fat and the rash/welts have improved.

I gotta tell ya. Both times I've tried this diet my body completely freaked out about it.

I'm not saying it hasn't worked for some people, because it obviously has. For me though, it was and has been a disaster.

Yea my hypoglycemia disappeared, but the rest of my body just caved in on itself....

I react badly to fresh raw meat and raw fat, so learned to dry the meat and render fat - been eating this (pemmican) and raw egg yolks for more than a year. Great results.
