Has anyone here ever made hamburger jerky? I've always made jerky with whole cuts of meat, but am suddenly curious to try this.

I've eaten it, but never made it. I think I've seen recipes online, though. _________________ I'm a vegetable-eater by proxy. I make sure to get 5-10 servings of herbivore per day. |

| It's pretty popular with the hunters around here, but I've never actually tried it. They even have "jerky guns" for extruding it in thin strips (I was planning on using a rollin pin and pizza cutter). My teeth aren't the strongest, so this might be a better jerky option for me. Too bad I can't season it up; I bet you could go in all sorts of great directions with that. Unfortunately, my dehydrator is fully of freaking apricots for the boys right now! I really really really want to put some hamburger in there, but it's going to have to wait. |

| Ok, I just took the first batch out, and I've gotta say that it's pretty tasty, and much less of a dental challenge than regular jerky. I seasoned it with salt, wheat-free soy, and garlic. I'm going to have to hide it so the boys don't eat it all in one sitting. |

What kind of meat did you use? What cut? _________________ I'm a vegetable-eater by proxy. I make sure to get 5-10 servings of herbivore per day. |

| It just looks like normal beef jerky. I rolled it out with a rolling pin (at last, I get to use my beautiful instrument), and cut it into strips. The hamburger was from our whole cow, so tough to say what cuts it came from. It would definitely be better with a lower-fat meat, though, as this was greasy (not that I so much mind). Also, the pre-dehydrated mix was yummy. I ate a bunch of it before it even got to the dehydrator. |

Did you have to dry it on a sheet of paper or something? _________________ I'm a vegetable-eater by proxy. I make sure to get 5-10 servings of herbivore per day. |

| Nope, did it right on the plastic dehydrator trays. I've got some non-stick sheets for the dehydrator, but I've never needed to use them for meat. I avoided making jerky for the longest time because I had the impression it would be messy, or complicated, or something. But it's the easiest thing to make, and one of the quickest. I wish I had tried this hamburger kind before. And for those out there who can eat herbs and seasonings and such, the possibilities are endless. |

| I rolled the meat between two strips of wax paper, and then used a small offset spatula to transfer, easy peasy. It would probably be easier to use one of those jerky guns, but I shudder at the thought of cleaning one of those things. |

I agree, I think we need stronger jerk gun control laws. Are you allowed to own a gun in Canada? _________________ May the spirit of the dead cow be upon you. |

For real? Yes. Hand guns are restricted, but guns for hunting are OK if you're licenced. No one I know, (who isn't a drug dealer) has a gun in their house, but a lot of people I know who live in the country or have a cottage have a rifle. But they're not for protecting them from other people, but from animals.
Jerky guns, on the other hand ... I carry a jerky gun in a holster. _________________ I'm a vegetable-eater by proxy. I make sure to get 5-10 servings of herbivore per day. |

I was cleaning my jerky gun the other day and it just went off. That was a wake up call. _________________ May the spirit of the dead cow be upon you. |

Hi, I have been lurking for awhile. Came across this thread and just need some clarification please.
To make hamburger jerky, you are just rolling out raw non lean ground beef and cutting it into strips? Then what? season it and put in your oven right on the racks on low? how long? temp?
I have a Nuwave, can this be used?
Does it stay together like real jerky once its dried? Or fall apart?
Please advise.
Sammy
