Hey, guys!

I'm wanting to do more raw... I've been doing more lightly cooked steaks, but am curious about ALL raw.

I'm not sure what the rules are for this. Let's say I go to Whole Foods and pick up a package of ground beef pre-packaged. Can you eat this raw?

Can you get grocery store steaks that are prepackaged or in the window and just eat them raw? I don't understand what is and is not acceptable.

And what about suet that I get from the grocery store that is packaged? Eat it raw? Right now I'm rendering it to tallow, which I love.

Would I be better off sticking to mostly seared rare/medium-rare thick cut steaks, kind of like beef sashimi?

If I want to do a boiling water dunk/disinfection... what is the time limit to keep it submerged? 60 seconds? More? Less?

Thanks everyone!

This is really individual. Some people eat grocery store meat raw with no trouble. Some people insist on only eating grass-fed, organic, sashimi-grade, etc. You might have to experiment on your own. Just remember that you're currently already suffering from multiple infections and your immunity is compromised. You might want to wait until after you clear up your parasites and infections before you go raw.

I agree with red about exercising caution while your immunity is still fragile.  However, you certainly know the risks, so if you're up for it, I think the beef sashimi is a great place to start.  Some people have a hard time eating raw fat, and find that a light grilling makes it more palatable.  Steak tartar is also a nice easy introductory raw dish, although I really recommend chopping your own meat, rather than using ground.  Be sure to add lots of egg yolks to whatever meat you are consuming.  They make a nice "sauce" and help you to get enough fat.

Thanks for the feedback. I just want to clarify that I did not test positive for any parasites or ova. I only tested positive for salmonella and a non-toxin producing strain of C. Difficile. I'm being referred to an infectious disease specialist because the doctor told me that if they knew about this, they would say 'don't treat' (as in antibiotics, etc.).

So, I'm not really sure what else I should be doing other than trying to eat as healthfully as possible. I think it's probably pretty obvious that in general, I seem to have a compromised immune system... from what, I don't yet know. Deep down, there are many things about me and my problems that still lead me to believe that I have some candida troubles, but have tried so many things in the book and if anything am just feeling worse. I plan on discussing this with the infectious disease specialist in the near future.

In the mean time I suppose I'll stick to medium-rare steaks and the like and not pursue an all-raw diet, as I agree it could present my immune with a problem.

Thanks.

You can be tested for candida, you know. If you suspect it, ask for a test.

I tend to have a gut made out of iron and even a raw piece of steak
left on countertop for a whole day don't cause any problem. Though
there are lot more healthier options, I'm sure.

On the other hand, you are lot more sensitive to food chemicals and
parasites etc. so it may be better if you go for better grade meat with
cleaner preparation.

I did find raw fat little unpalatble. It simply tastes so much better cooked.
But lean part is lot creamier and softer uncooked Smile

Experiment and don't force yourself too hard. Well being of your mind
is as important as the well being of your body.

IMO with your digestive symptoms I cannot see any reason to go fully raw. why not atleast cook the outside of the meat? The nutrition will be virtually unchanged anyway, I can't see the point of all raw at all actually.

My own experience with raw meat is that my system simply will not tolerate it and it gets purged out the other end.. Still pink!  Wow

I do however tolerate rare steak that is more or less raw inside. Medium rare is tolerated best and gives me most energy.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I've never done all raw meat before, but have a pretty good feeling that it would slide right through me as well, Glennart. Thanks for sharing your experience.

What kind of candida tests are there? Blood? Stool?

I just had a stool test done, and I asked the nurse whether they would be culturing/testing for candida/yeast/fungal growth, and she said yes with 100% confidence. Then, and I'm really not all that surprised, when I talked with the doctor yesterday, I asked him about any candida/yeast/fungi culturing/testing results and he said that they don't test for that. Ugh...  Roll Eyes

Once they get me in with the infectious disease specialist, I'm going to inquire with her/him about it and perhaps do a stool test repeat to see if the salmonella is still hanging around as well.

I hope I'm not coming off to everyone like the gross sickly cat you see around your neighborhood sometimes, missing patches of hair and all. I'm trying to get well, it's just such a confusing, demanding, and multi-path journey that is pretty exhausting at times. So, with that said, I really appreciate everyone's input and help.

I can eat any pastured meat straight up raw. Not so much grain-fed stuff, and ground and grain-fed together I simply can't do raw at all.

I usually sear ground meat in a patty even if it's pastured. I prefer cuts raw though, if it hasn't been sitting out long.

I would avoid ground meats.  Grinding opens up the surface area by millions of times.  Pathogens, for the most part, live on the surface.  If you want ground, best to grind your own right before eating it.  Grinders are cheap.

Of course if you want to play it safer, you could always borrow Red's boob light to sterilize (partially) the outside of the meat.  Happy

Thank you, Erasmus, for giving my UV light a way cooler name.
