what is the least damaging fruit..

im going to add back in some carbs in the form of some fruits now, because i'd rather have my carbs come from something semi-natural like fruits instead of something like white rice which in my humble opinion isn't really natural, in the sense of the word.
if i only eat meat and eggs, no dairy, what would be the best type of fruit group to add carbs back in.
would i be going for something like a banana in that kind of starchy group, or maybe some berries in that kind of direction, or something totally acidic like oranges or something more mild like apples and pears?
if you think i should totally avoid fruits all together, say why you think that and suggest another carb source.

I'm not going to comment on the weight gaining idea, but I will throw this link out at you, and it's still a very Paleo approach-

Meat, leaves and berries is pretty basic. Not too high on the carb scale and just sharing.

If you're looking to avoid "starches" per se, I suppose you'd probably want to avoid bananas. If you're not concerned with that, I guess whatever would be fine.

Personally, my fruit choices tend to be grapes, apples, assorted berries and oranges. For no other reason than those are the fruits I like most. I'm not "educated" on what advantages one fruit might have over another. Perhaps someone else here can offer more insight on that subject. I just try to listen to my body to see how it reacts to certain things and I know what tastes decent to me. Sometimes that is your best gauge, imho.

On another note...I know I am a newb here and I don't mean this disrespectfully at all, but I notice that you tend to jump from idea to idea very, very quickly. Sometimes within as little as day or two of trying something new, you jump off it and are fired up to try something else.

I don't know if this is for a specific health reason or if you are just very eager or something like that...but if I could be so bold as to offer a small piece of advice as an old guy who's been around a spell, sometimes patience is indeed a virtue and listening to your own body and what seems to work for it, regardless of what some folks might say to the contrary, isn't always a bad thing.

I'm not saying asking for opinions is bad, nor do I have a problem offering my two cents, but I just wonder how your body has a chance to adapt to much of anything when you switch gears so frequently?

Again, no offense towards you or anyone else intended and my sincerest apologies if I have missed a piece of the puzzle. Just making an observation and trying to help.

What the above poster so gently said.....

and

go with the fruit that doesn't give you negative symptoms. Most fruit bothers me in some small way. Oranges make my head feel a "little funny," bananas give me a stomach ache and make the inside of my mouth a little weird, apples do something a little strange to my stomach if I ate more than half... black raspberries, strawberries, cherries and peaches don't bother me except that if i have a kilo of them I will eat a kilo.

My favorite fruit used to be blueberry...waffles...like a box or two at a time...

(wonders if they're in the fridge)

I would go for berries - blueberries, raspberries, strawberries are very low carb. I'm reeeeally sensitive to fruits (or probably just carbs, to be honest), and those don't bother me. They DO, of course, cause me to gain weight, just as ANY carb does. But they don't give me an immediate negative reaction the way an apple does (instant bloating/stomach issues).

I would be really careful about this though, they could trigger sugar cravings. I found when I tried to incorporate a little fruit, I was then craving tomatoes, onions... slippery slope. And eating those things did not make me feel good, they made me feel sluggish. But everyone's different of course. Smile If I ever wanted to incorporate berries again I would stick them in a breakfast egg shake or something, so that it's a set amount and only once a day. I think I'd find that easier in terms of keeping cravings under control.

Oops... sorry, I just reread your post and see that gaining weight is something you WANT to do, so in that case I would probably say go for it! As long as it doesn't trigger cravings for higher carb things, grains, etc.

VIking Dan, you crack me up... Laugh

I think you should totally avoid fruits all together because you don't need any carb source.

If you want to gain weight, put on muscle mass. Weight train. Besides, if you're too skinny eating only meat will bring your body back to a healthy weight. It'll add the fat mass it needs, and stop when it's there.

hey, what am i doing over here......this ain't kansas.

anyway, what about non sweet fruits....like avocados and tomatoes. plus avocados have lots of fat which you should include eat when eating carbs.
BlackLabelSimian

Personally, I like tomatoes and eat a lot of them. But in the grand scheme of things, that means nada, I suppose. lol
My personal experience is that fruits of most kinds don't make me store a ton of bodyfat...It's the starches and refined sugars, so I tend to say if ya want some fruit or vegetables, have at 'em. But of course, your mileage may vary.
