Weekly

This is because we sometimes have a little trouble sticking to things long term, because sometimes an unallowed indulgence leads to a binge, and because it's kind of fun.

Right now Jbird and I are working on weekly challenges.. Friday we can relax, if we want and then it starts all over again on Saturdays. They can change with each week depending on what our goals are: like adding no dairy to the challenge, or a particular caloric restriction etc.

Ok for my part this week is going to be the week of no beer. Last week the rules were under 30 carbs and I could fit a beer into that EASILY with the food I ate...and did.

No beer going to be the hardest bit
Under15 carbs
Under 1500 calories
Raw meat=bulk of food
include minimum 2-3 raw yolks per day
Get weight routine together
Not more than 2 teas/coffees not including green or herbal[/u]

Mine will be no coffee (or any caffeine). If I can get through a week, I'll have this addiction licked!
ReddyMcMeaty

ouch.. that caffeine one is hard..at least for me. When I was really fit I used to LOVE EC stacks and actually couldn't get off them until about a month before conceiving my first babe when I went raw (so lucky I did!!! I think i had a nice detox during that period). I went off caffeine completely early pregnancy and then added it back in because I was not able to actually drive to school in the morning without it... somethign about those early months OMG all I did was go to school, then lie on the couch for literally the rest of the day. I'm currently on 2-3 cups of tea right now and drinking decaf coffee. No more of my quadruple strength espressos with cream all day long, which is just as well because I used to have to import the coffee from Canada.

I made it through day 1 with no beer. Of course if I'm preg. beer is out anyway. I craved beer insanely last pregnancy which was funny because I didn't really like it before then (overdose as a teen), so DH would give me a shot glass of his beer to drink with dinner.

Well... THAT didn't last long for me! Although, if you say this goes from Saturday to Friday, I guess technically the week never got started. So, I will "play it safe" and make my weekly challenge using half & half instead of heavy cream. Not much of a challenge, huh? Laugh

I have never been a big coffee drinker anyway. I only drink ice water besides this morning 20oz coffee habit. I may try and go down slowly to less and less. I have given coffee up before (for over a year once), but it always creeps back in. Weird.

I guess I am just wanting to be off all "drugs", and this small amount of caffeine has been my only one (besides VERY occasional alcohol consumption) since giving up the dreaded nicotine five years ago.

Good luck on the beer challenge. Looks like you are the only one doing any kind of challenge this week. Smile
Jaybird

Hey Meg. Well, you already know how miserably I did on the 30 grams of carbs challenge. I was more around 60 to 70 for me on average, but I won't go into the sacraligious details.

Coffee, I am horribly addicted to it! And for the past weeks I've been deluding myself about being able to have dairy, I don't think I can even really have raw dairy without symptoms. And coffee and cream together are just so good, I'm sad. But since reintroducing coffee and dairy, my moods have been increasingly worse as well. If I could stick to just one good cup in the morning it probably wouldn't be so bad, but as the days go by I want more and more, you don't want to know how much coffee I drank today!

I'll join you on the bulk of food being mostly raw meat Meg.

Also:
Cry no dairy or coffee this week
- carbs no higher than 30 grams

I used to eb so addicted to coffee that I had a horrible migraine one day when I staued with my sister. I never have headaches so I didn't understand. I told her, I had coffee this morning, that's the only thing I could think of, withdrawal of coffee, and she was a bit embarrassed and said it had been decaf! I hate to be dependent on anything (that's why I quit smoking 8 years ago).
At that stage I drank about 20 cups a day, and strong Dutch coffee at that! It took me 6 months to get off it, replacing the real coffee with decaf in the machine, one teaspoon at the time, but it worked and now I've been having one cup of real coffee a day, and for the rest decaf. I like the taste of it too much.
I love having it with cream and it was a big step for me to take only two with one tablespoon of cream a day, one in the morning and one after dinner, but for the rest of the day I take coconut oil, or even butter (a good quality Dutch butter tastes just like clotted cream).
My challenge this week is not to eat any more coconut almond buttercake until Saturday night and then I can have 2 pieces. If I must - better would be not to have it till I lost, say 10 kilos, but I must be realistic!

I'm getting my carbs back under control finally. I was at about 40 grams, much closer to my 30 gram goal.

Coffee! It's hard to give up dairy and coffee both. I know dairy gives me problems. I have cut down dairy a lot over the past few weeks, and by doing that I've noticed cheese definitely causes sinus congestion, it also causes bloating and "stops me up" Despite the symptoms, I love coffee with cream and it keeps me from eating other things. I wish I was only drinking 20oz in the morning, that would be progress for me. And the thing is, it doesn't bother my nursling at all, otherwise that would actually get me to stop drinking so much Laugh

We need to invent a non dairy, non chemical, no carb, creamer type thing for our coffee! We will be rich, but more importantly we can enjoy our coffee Smile.

YES I agree, I have been thinking along the sam,e lines! Did anybody try almond milk? Or would that have too many carbs? I think I'm going to try that one of these days.

next time I get to the reformhaus I'll get some almond milk. This is a serious issue!!!! I'd be willing to pay top dollar for a cream substitute!!!
Willeke

you can make it yourself, pretty easy, apparently
Take 150 grams almond flour, add 1 liter boiling water and leave this for 20 minutes. Sieve the almond mixture through a piece of cloth. The collected fluid is almond milk.
You can dilute it by using more water, it's a matter of taste, I suppose.

I feel for Jaybird with the coffee/dairy thing. If it weren't for my heavy cream, I wouldn't make enough fat intake everday, I swear.

I know-- excuses, excuses, lol.

I admit I am acculturated to coffee! And I like it! LOL

ALOHA!
ReddyMcMeaty

I just made some almond milk, not impressed. It's watery, sweet and blech. I used a tea strainer though, not cloth, so maybe thathas sth. to do with it. Ideally we could get coconut milk without the taste of coconut, it's creamy and has healthy fats in it.
Willeke

I'll try it with a paper coffee filter in a funnel this afternoon, will let you know!

Hmm, Meg maybe almond milk with coconut oil added? The tasteless kind? Eh I dont' know. I'm having cream in my coffee. I'm staying away from cheese this week and when the cream is gone no more of that. I've been able to not drink the raw milk i have for DH and DS and now I just need to resist the cheese. Cream will be the last to go.

I'm doing good on carbs today...only the small amount in the cream really. I've had steak and eggs for breakfast, and I just had a very eggy eggnog with 5 yolks, 1 whole egg, about 1/4 cup cream, freshly grated nutmeg, and stevia.

The coffee I have cut down but now eliminated yet. Going from two 32 oz iced coffees a day (it recently culminated to that over the weekend) and I'm on my second 8 oz mug today. I might have one more mug, then go down to two tomorrow.
Willeke

I made the almond milk and threw it out, it was greenish yellow! maybe the paper filters kept out the stuff that should have made it look more like milk, but I am not going to put this in my decaf or coffee!
I think I'll keep using my 2 tablespoons of cream each day as long as I keep losing weight.
Had a bit too much of the salty dried sausage that my butcher makes himself, it's just so good, but salty, yes... It has only meat and salt, some pepper and cloves and then it's dried.
I try to resist because the salt will make me gain weight temporarily but every time I go to that butcher, I do get one at least.

Bought some almond milk... it contains maltodextrin.
Anyway it's only 1.5 fat so it's gross and sweet. In coffee it's undrinkable, in tea it is palatable but not pleasant. It needs fat.
Willeke

oh what a beautiful picture with my running wolfhound! Can I keep that wolf for a while??? much much nicer than the shark <g>!
Or do you change pics with every post I send?

As much as possible in 7-8 weeks

Hey I've been working on a "Get fit for vacation" personal challenge... anyone got something coming up this summer that they're working hard for? This isn't a vanity thing (too much weight to lose for that), I want to enjoy the activities on vacation and to me the fitter I am the more enjoyment can be gleaned from any given activity - hiking, biking, climbing etc. So this is more than just weekly, but I'll take the eating a week at a time since it's what I have the hardest time with. I'm on day 4 of eating vlc... more carbs than Rob's vlc -probably 12 or so.

Goals
Lose 10-20 lbs (I've lost 6 so far, water yes.. but I'll take it)
Squat: 80lbs
Row: 80lbs
1 pullup, fwd, facing grip - will be a chore given my weight
Start sprinting again

Most of my stuff is posted in the accountability log, but if anyone has something coming up and wants to post their personal challenge as well we can chat in here.
Heather

I really need to challenge myself!

I need to keep my diet immaculate and as low carb as possible.

I need to run 10-14 miles at least once, every week until race day.

I only have 6 weeks to do this. Ecstatic
Bobi-p

It'll be a piece of cake for you, Heather...errr, I mean a piece of meat!! Grin
ReddyMcMeaty

We're on the same time frame, even though I'm not in an "event", I just want to feel a little more comfortable and closer to a normal person. I feel (yes it's all in my head) like a spectacle when I'm overweight.

After a short (physically needed) layoff of exercise and an (uneeded) layoff of strict eating I'm back today. Will start off with a lower body workout and if MIL leaves early enough a bike ride with DH and the baby.
