Vegetarian Body Building

I shouldn't be online spank me. But I had to post this- for SimMan and Teknodamage Smile and all other BBs

Look what I can do

http://vegetarianbodybuilder.com/index2.html

He's 52!!! Credit where credit is due I say.

You can spank me now  Evil

Best wishes,

hard_rainus

He looks great. It looks like his veg diet works for him. If that type of diet worked for me, I would be doing it too.
adwred

Yeah, I noticed he's still definitely lacto-ovo. There's no way you could get a body like that without eggs and dairy.
jl53563

If I ate a dozen eggs per day, along with a couple of ounces of cheese, a cup of heavy cream and a salad, would I be a lacto-ovo vegetarian?   Laugh
Puma

One word, eggs. Laugh Very first thing on his protein list.
hard_rainus

Ok, so we can dismiss the guy above because he consumes a fair amount of animal products. What do we say to this? http://veganmusclepower.org/bodybuilding.html
ReddyMcMeaty

look at the nutrition and physical degeneration book, he's lucky... and his kids will be less lucky, if his descendants further down tried vegan they'd probably be very sick.
Avalon

Meg, you're kidding right. Do you mean the Weston Book?

That's all about people who have left traditional ways of eating. More importantly meaning towards processed refined foods. Just because no people were found in his travels that were Vegan doesn't mean it's not possible. Otherwise, we wouldn't be flying, blending, driving, computing and other unnatural acts.

I own that book. Have read that book. It's not that simple.

Sincerely,
Xeta

Avalon, when Price was in Africa, there were tribes that ate mainly animal products and tribes that were agriculturalists( ate mostly corn, bananas, etc.). He could compare there health. He saw a marked degeneration in the agriculturalists compared to the robust animal food eaters. The healthiest people that Price studied with the most perfect dental structure and least cavities(Price's specialty) were the Eskimoes on an all meat diet. The message from that book is VERY clear. The more animal products consumed the better.

I have read the book and agree with you (otherwise I wouldn't be a member of this forum). I actually see very few vegans that are over 50 or 60, but just to keep adding fuel to this fire: http://www.thegardendiet.com/storm2.html
meatISawesome369

yeah I've read about Storm and his wife Jinjee. There raising there kids on a raw vegan diet. Jinjee ate a vegan diet at first then a raw vegan diet during her pregnancies.  Storm has said that after all these years as a raw vegan that he's having "detox" symtoms. He says it's "old emotions" being detoxed. He's probably developing candida and other bowel degeneration over time. Storm's kids are not developing properly and are stick figures with little muscle mass and bad teeth. Here's Storm's documentary free on google about raising his kids on a raw vegan diet:

Only 2

i've known only 2 hard-core vegans during my lifetime.

they are wonderful people. however, i must here state that their physical capacity falls far short of what *possibly* their genetics wud allow.

first example is 2 sisters. the other one eats meat regularly compared to her sister & despite otherwise poor dietary habits has more radiant complexion, looks 'firmer' *im not kidding* like the wind wont blow her away.

second example is my grandmother. i love the woman but her mind is almost gone. its painful to know u have the answer in ur very hands but am unable to do a thing as a result of her personal beliefs, which need be respected

..and in a world like ours, even exalted at the expense of one's health and well-being.

empirically speaking..find me a large collection of world-class sprinters or weightlifters who are exclusively vegan. im not sure if u will find ANY significant amount.

distance athletes, yes. sprinters, no. high-grade protein is highly conducive to maintaining a healthy amount of lean body mass that meets and exceeds performance standards.

of course, there are those who will do better with less meat..but that is genetic and evryone should keep an open mind in the sense that
one man's meat may indeed be another's poison.
Carne Vorare

Also, yes a person can live on large amounts of non-animal products but many of these need to undergo lengthy preparation processes.

Price possibly meant food as it occurs in Nature, with minimal preparation.
i am here referring to his study on cats using raw VS. cooked foods.

another interesting conclusion he drew is not as animal products relate to health but rather their effect on the psyche; namely the ability to induce calmness and contentment.

..if u watch alot of National Geographic like me its obvious how apex predators like say, tigers are generally low-key after consuming their prey. if disturbed after a large meal they are more apt to run away than fight.

contrast this with a male elephant whose territory you just wandered into...ANY time of the day

granted, only one example but its necessary to demonstrate Price's findings..in a format i can actually translate.
woof_woof

Av you know I like you but your mind is poisoned.
Drop the idea of vegetarianism. The sooner the better.

I know many bodybuilders with shitty diets (fast food, etc) but with proper drug enhancement they look great most of the time. Does it mean fast food diet is optimal for bodybuilding ?

BTW SAD diet (even based on fast foods) is probably better for building muscle mass then vegetarian diet.

I have to apologize. I've been a bit depressed lately. Have to take my kitty to the hospital later today Sad The thought of losing him totally freaks me out... that and I was drinking and posting last night  Roll Eyes

DOHHH!!!

I am sorry to hear about that Avalon; I hope everything works out for you and your cat.

First of all, he consumes animal products.

Second of all, for a bodybuilder, he is not particularly impressive at all.  Look at his measurements- they're nothing extraordinary.

He doesn't even look that good, in my opinion.

That is even more pathetic.  That physique is despicable for a bodybuilder.

With modern supplements and conveniences, bodybuilding is possible as a vegan, but in order to truly reach one's genetic limits, meat is irreplaceable.

Hmm.. the tagline was "America's first vegan bodybuilder" I wonder why it took so long for a vegan to become a bodybuilder, and why the rest of the bodybuilding community isn't rushing to follow?

Vegan+muscle+health are just not compatible.   And I will admit my mind is completely closed on this matter.  Humans can LIVE off of vegetation, for sure, but there is no way to convince me that it's the best way, or even remotely healthy...even if a few famous people eat that way and look good.
Avalon

Good Morning,

Thanx for the Kitty concern  Yup  He is  Sunny  Sunny  Sunny  Sunny He nearly killed everyone at the clinic though- in the air, slow-mo Matrix spin! You should've seen it  Shock  He had a fever and is on Anti-biotics.

Meg I can't find the tag line you spoke of. I don't doubt it's there, but just for the rude boy Individualist, the page says Vegetarian. So your quip about the animal products falls flat. Everyone knows there are degrees to many things and to Vegetarianism. Vegans are animal free, not necessarily Vegetarians.

I'm still impressed. I would love to be more fit. I'm 51 and trying to start running again. Again meaning I used to run every where in New York. Literally  Happy  Two years ago, (now in Florida) I hit 194lbs and wasn't even walking! I was eating though- Super Beefy Enchiladas hmmmm!!!

My feelings are that it most certainly is possible to bodybuild as a Vegetarian. I haven't researched this, yet, it seems people are doing it.  Maybe it's not all worked out yet. I can't argue that by eating meat, you get all the nutrient work that was done for you. To me it's just another fast food fix. Maybe right, maybe wrong. I don't know. But it's not a closed issue in my book.

And another thing, I'm not a fan of the ripped muscle look as a rule. I mean a little is just fine by me... I was impressed by his 52 year old Body. Veg or not. I hope to get fit and trim myself.

And another thing, seemingly impossible things are done all the time. It's what drives people forward. We hear it can't be done, and then we set about doing it anyway. Damn I need a Pep talk! Can someone get the 'You'll never amount to anything' I heard my Mommy say when I was 6 out of my head please!!!

Best wishes,

Yup  Kiss  There   go to www.emofree.com  and download the free pdf and look at it... and then use it on that phrase, and any other that comes up.
Avalon

Thank you so much! I can't tell you how I'm still so poisoned by feelings of worthlessness and parental stuff.

Will look into that.

Big Hug back to you!
meatythang

Geez...well you can build muscle eating shit im sure...check this guy
http://www.charliesgym.info/
raw-vegan bodybuilder, but i dont know... i did raw vegan for one month because i thought it would be cool, i couldnt lift after a couple of weeks, i lost 10 lbs that month and i guarantee most was muscle, I personally feel that vegetarians, vegans and especially raw vegans are frying their brains due to lack of amino acids... think about it their are essential fats, and essential amino acids, but ive never heard of an essential carb  Laugh  and most minerals and vitamins that are essential can be found in rare-raw meat... and as for Storm and Jinjee i think its child abuse, those kids are going to be so jacked up when they grow up...
Carnation

My FIL is a raw vegan, and aside from my non-eating alcoholic mother, is one of the sickest people I know.  He used be a very sturdy, strong kind of guy, but has been raw vegan for over 20 years now.  The man is 6'1", and weighs 110 lbs!  He doesn't see the connection between his diet and the fact that he is constantly bedridden.  He actually believes that things would be worse if he ate otherwise.  Bonkers  Needless to say that he has a hard time relating to us.
wifezilla

From the raw food guy's website...

"I think that I have reduced my food intake by at least half "

In order to maintain his weigh and build at 57, he had to HALF his food consumption.
Avalon

Yeah, yeah  Roll Eyes  and where do the animals we eat get their aminos? Seaweed, grass, leaves.

I think the problem is more complicated, or is it more simple. Even Vegans and Vegetarians eat crap. I'm impressed by anyone who fights the SAD regime veg or meat. If they fail, then someone who follows may find the answer. We didn't fly right away or, ride a bicycle did we? We had training wheels to learn our balance. Ever ride a unicycle? You'd be lucky if you just get up on it and ride. But once you do, you know.

I'm not convinced that no animal food is a good thing. But there are others, in the forbidden zone named Taylor, who believe otherwise. Some claim as others do that they are healthy and thriving.

Show me a bird and I'll show you a turd  Grin ...ehh unless it's constipated, in which case I have no idea where this is going

Bonkers

I'm beginning to believe there is a natural reason for the division of veg and meat eaters. You find it everywhere in nature. Why not in humans.
meatISawesome369

Avalon, I love the way you question everything and don't become too dogmatic. I believe everyone on this forum has been on and continue to be on a journey to find the diet that is best for them. We don't tell anybody else there wrong. We each just impart our wisdom that has worked for us and see if someone else can use it. We're all different and react to different foods in different ways. It's like this message board is made up of the nutritional elite. I LOVE this board! All of you are a wonderful, varied bunch from around the world. It's been an honour to be a part of this.

hey Avalon I don't condone your way of eating, but Im steadfast on idea that humans need animal protein, we've all heard the vegan mantra that horse's and rhinos and other extremely strong herbivores "get there protein via leaves, grass, veggies and shit" but i know for a fact that we dont have a bazillion stomachs nor half the enzymes that these herbivores do that break down the complex plant cellulose and other plant matter to obtain the aminos we need for vitality...(sorry im a science major)....but it all goes back to the way it makes you feel i guess i had a friend who just can't bring herself to eat animal flesh the poor thing, and an ex who literally spit up a meat meal i gave him he'd been like that since 6 years old... so do what feels good, just wanted to clear up the scientific junk
waywardsister

Oh, that Storm guy really gets to me - god, his kids teeth. They're gorgeous kids, but the teeth!
