The Subject of PooAnd I aint talk'n Winne.
Now some have loose. Some have Firm and some don't go nowhere for a looong time. I'm the latter.
The only thing that is guaranteed to gets thingsesses going is a bottle of wine. Does anyone know of any real foods, not Epsom salt or Activa or laxatives that might do this when needed? Or do I just have to eat some bad fish
There has to be some food stuff that on command will doo the poo
Ideas welcome and please wash your hands before leaving the bathroom. Thanx.

I just found this:
| Quote: | You can take any or all of the foods suggested BUT if you do not get some excersise your bowel is going to be sluggish, all of the foods etc mentioned will work, for a while until your body adjusts to them......Eat any or all but EXCERSISE.....
jsut a walk around the block or the mall or dance or what ever but get moving and you will 'get moving' |
Perhaps I need to use that rebounder I bought

Hi Avalon,
i think potassium rich foods should do it and / or magnesium rich. There are so many things which could be. When i overdo salt for example, my bowels stop, perhaps because potassium is then low. Potassium is needed for the gut, when potassium is too low the bowel muscle stop to move ;) Sorry for my bad english... Or some strong coffee. Too much fiber can give me constipation too, but sometimes the opposite
I do not know if exercise could do it, but in my opinion it does not help, perhaps a very little bit.

Fruit always seems to make things move for me, and not always in a good way.
I suppose I can consider myself fortunate that I never have a problem with too little movement, only too much, although that can be rather inconvenient as well.
Back to my dog stories, what makes our little dog go, is a walk around the block, with many interesting things to sniff along the way.

Maybe you just need to sniff someone's ass, Ava.

Are you volunteering, Red I'll try anyone once
Thanx cabalco. I'll try anything once
When I eat SAD I have no problem at all. And I know when I'm not, I'm digesting better and there should naturally be, less. But say, after a week, 4-5 days of nutt'n, likely 5 and I have a lot of wine POW BANG SLOOPY DOOPY!
I don't want to go with prune juice. There just must be some natural bowel irritant, other than smelling someone's ass

This is funny!

There goes the diet!

Well, not that I'm a proponent of high-chemical foods, but coconut oil usually does the trick. Sometimes a little too effectively. In my experience, though, constipation is usually indicative of not enough water and/or not enough fat in the diet.

Yea Coconut Oil gave me in the first time some diarrhea, but after some days have passed, the "effect" was gone.
BTW: I know a carb / grain eater who gets diarrhea from exercising I think it is like Lutz is writing, carbs overload the system and every tiny little bit too much histamine gives then diarrhea. I know it, because before LC i got diarrhea from near everything... Now i can drink 5 black coffees per day and nothing happens.

Maybe it's the lauric acid.

Maybe a shot of coconut milk then? I remember Black Cherries used to give me good GO!. But not when I use them on purpose it seems.
I am surprised, with all the years man has been on the planet, there just isn't better information about constipation. Don't hold back, Jack! I mean, Come on!
Thanx and we'll get back to you

This may help you question some things you eat; from the AV-Skeptics Yahoo group:
I do have a problem which is constipation and is probably due to
> ignorance and wrong health decision BEFORE I even had access to the
> Internet and follow certain people like Ray Peat, JK, Peter at
> Hyperlipid Blog and mow Bruce.

You might need to cut out all grains and most dairy products,
at least for a while. Ghee and butter would probably be best.
Sour cream or cream cheese would be slightly more risky. I
suggest you read Breaking the Vicious Cycle. It's a diet that
was designed to cure serious gastro-intestinal problems like
chronic constipation, diarrhea, celiac, IBS, IBD, Crohn's, and
ulcerative colitis. I would avoid or minimize the vegetable oils,
nuts, and seeds, which are feature prominently in the diet. It's
generally a paleo diet, but allows 24-hour home-made yogurt,
butter, and hard cheeses in small amounts.

Aged cheese is a very constipating food. Even AV said that
raw cheese makes him constipated if eaten by itself. He has
said in his books to eat fat (butter) and/or carbs (honey) with
raw cheese to prevent constipation. Milk and cheese have a
lot of opioid peptides and (natural) hormones that can affect
people in varying ways. Butter and ghee don't. Wai Genriiu
has a different theory about constipation. You might find her
ideas helpful if nothing else works. She blames constipation,
acne, and cellulite on opioids in wheat and dairy, as well as
cooked protein in general. So, you might try eating only raw
meat, since you said you cook it very little. And get rid of all
the dairy except maybe ghee and butter.

Hmmm.. perhaps fructose is the better carb, i need to do a trial with only some fruits as carbs, without peel.

Thanx Nicola.
The thing is, nothing's ever simple. Years ago I was a faithful Atkins follower. I don't even know if that means anythng, only that I was eating a lot of meat in many of it's forms- however the only raw meat I had at the time was Sushi. A lot of it. But...
Long story short is, I've never been much of a goer, unless I eat a whole pizza and drink some wine. I never feel bloated unless it's after binging, meaning I generally don't feel constipated. I just have this feeling things should be moving along. It's mental, not physical. And it's not even that I strain any, cause I don't- unless I try and force a poo.
The fact is you hear people say over and over how often one should go. If I drink a lot of wine at the end of the week and I have a good go, I think- where was that hiding But seriously, the naysayer in me writes people say more fiber. I've heard all sides. I haven't found the trick. I haven't tried zero carb and I really don't want to go all dead animal even if I scream Hallelujah I am FREE!
I might be willing to try some high meat and get that bacteria in there that might just scare the shit out of me before it reaches my mouth.
Red, I will give the coconut oil a shot when I can pick some up- maybe over the weekend. If it works I might try it other places.

Hi, Avalon.
My first thought is that you may have too much fiber in your diet? I wouldn't personally be looking for things to make me un-constipated, but instead for the things that are constipating me. Fiber and carbs will more substantially feed the the intestinal bacteria and produce larger stools due to the increase in live and dead bacteria.
Having lots of good bacteria isn't a bad thing... And I agree with others that usually constipation is a lack of sufficient fat in the diet -- it is the strongest stimulator of the gastrocolic reflex, which propels food through the intestines and colon. Higher fiber and lower fat is a logical recipe for constipation.
The one thing most IBS'ers are told to avoid is high fat items, because they are the things that induce strong colonic and intestinal contractions, leading to diarrhea. In someone with normal colonic motility, a high fat meal should be sufficient to induce normal movement and get things going without causing explosive D.
Vitamin C in high doses is a VERY easy way for me to induce a bowel movement... so is sea salt dissolved in water and chugged. However, I'm usually never looking for ways of intentionally moving my bowels, as I'm sure you know.
Oh, and yes... I second (or third or fourth, whatever) the coconut oil. The chemicals, fat, and antimicrobial activity of it should in one way or another get you going.
