October... Er, I mean November Challenge!

OK people. I know I'm starting this a day early, but it just shows how focused I am. It's my birthday on October 26, so I'm really diving into some hardcore effort to look my absolute best, going into this new year. I'd like to lose 8 lbs by the 26th, which is just over 2 lbs a week. This will take me into unchartered territory, weight wise (as an adult). It'll be hard, as I have a lot of celebrations to attend this month, including my Squeeze's birthday on the 8th and Thanksgiving weekend. Plus, I'll probably have a couple of birthday celebrations of my own to attend, one of which is happening on the 20th, I believe. But I'm not entering my 30's unhappy with how committed I am to my WOE, so this is it. I'm recommitting myself to having a healthy body.

My method will be stringent gluten-free, casein-free, zero-carb, IF. Basically IF meat and eggs. I will be consuming alcohol, but in strict moderation, and only as long as I'm losing weight. I'll be using some degree of calorie-control. I don't plan to 'cheat' on my birthday, either, which is a first. This year I'm giving myself the present of not feeling like crap the day after my birthday or going into a new year feeling guilty. Yup

Good luck to ya. Smile

Go, eggy! Sounds like a plan. Yup I always considered October sort of the start of "official" holiday season. The Xmas stuff is going up in stores (next to the Halloween candy at my local drugstore!) Wow Dunno and everybody starts making holiday plans. It's a good time to start getting in shape for the end of the year Christmas and New Year stuff.

Birthdays have always been a little tricky for me. In the past I was always overindulging no matter whose birthday it was - and somebody is always having one, so I ended up seeing birthday parties as some kind of national holiday "splurge" thing, and I would always get derailed.

Of course, now that I have almost zero tolerance for alcohol Cry and weird eating habits that nobody else follows, it's a little easier! Laugh

Yay, nice one, guys. Glad to have the company! Yup

Thanks Scout. Yup Love

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Red, and will be trying my darndest to keep up with you... I don't do well with challenges though, I'll keep my eye on you though and let your success be my motivation. Happy

Oh, I forgot to add no artificial (or natural) sweeteners. No diet pop of any kind or any product with splenda, aspartame, glycerine, sugar alcohols, stevia, etc. I already know aspartame makes me moody, so I'd been trying to give it up for a while, but I want to put this sweeteners-stall-weight-loss baby to bed. I never have sugar alcohols anyway - actually, not true - I had a piece of sugarfree gum about 2 weeks ago. No more.

I did have some stevia yesterday in an iced coffee before I added this to my challenge, but won't be having anymore sweeteners from this point on. I need to lose my taste for any sweets and I fear that's impossible while you're still fooling your body with fake sugar.
Scout Finch

Yeah, I haven't eaten any sugar alcohol stuff in years. I got into those foods with Atkins about midway through my weight loss but there were bathroom effects that were unpleasant enough (TMI!) that I gave them up completely. It's not worth going through that again. Wow

The fake sugar things really aren't good if you are a sucker for sweets. Whether there's a true "insulin response" or not - I don't think it matters. It's the taste bud thing, like you said, that gets people going and then craving.

Eggy, I just noticed how close to goal you are!!

that is awesome red!

I too am doing the same thing, with a few days of known messups between now and the 16 and 17th of November, I will be living off ground beef and eggs (both raw), coconut oil, and butter oil/cod liver oil... that's it!!!
adwred

Nice! This is the absolute first time that I haven't had any 'planned messups' around the holidays. I think that means I'm finally 'graduating' as a zero-carber, in a way. I don't want to cheat or plan to cheat anymore. I know there will be times when I'm not perfect because I'm travelling or in a sticky situation, but they won't be on purpose and they won't be desired. I'm going to do my best to fast my way out of situations like that from this point on instead of eat and feel bad later.

The only non-zero-carb food I have any intention of eating still falls under the category of meat - haggis, black pudding and lorne slice on Christmas. That stuff always has oats in it. And the offal and blood have carbs. But it's one day and it's so high in fat, I doubt it'll send me for a loop, insulin-wise. And that's months away.

I want to join you on this challenge! You know, it was last year this time that I started a down trend. Over so many birthday and holidays and then it became a regular thing all year to splurge on holidays and birthdays, which turned into regular mini-binges, and that is how I gained back....30 pounds almost in one year! Wow I've lost 10 of those in September. Now I need to get serious. I can't eat carbs as a "treat". It's no treat. I get bloated and feel like hell. After my daughter's bday I felt so awful, I indulged in gluten free cake, and it was waaaay sweet. The first ingredient: sugar...and the rest, rice flour and tapioca starch. It was a carrot/spice cake with pineapple added. Soooooo sugary...and yes, loaded with food chemicals Wink When I cooked the cake, the strong cinnamon-nutmeg-cloves smell was making me sneeze! Is that not a clue I am sensitive to...I guess that would be salicylates?

So anyhow, I am on board with your challenge. Pretty much exactly the same as yours. No casien, gluten, just meat and egg. I did have dairy in coffee today Bonkers but no more. I slipped up on it after no dairy for 3 weeks, and had it the last 3 days. Other than that I've had two boiled eggs so far today. Are you having butter? I have been having butter. I keep meaning to make ghee though.
adwred

I trialed goat butter yesterday (A2 casein), but I think it was too early and I shouldn't have. I haven't been dairy free long enough. I'm a bit gassy today (sorry, it's true Laugh ) and I'm pretty sure it's still due to the Worcestershire (gluten) sauce I ate accidentally on Sunday night, but it could have been the butter, so I'm going to omit it until I'm baseline and probably for the rest of October. I haven't had any ghee yet on this challenge and I won't be having any, either. This month will be completely dairy-free from this point on, including goat butter. Maybe on my birthday, I'll have some goat butter on eggs as a treat. Laugh I may also have breakfast that day, too, as well as dinner. I'd love to wake up and have steak and eggs on my birthday! Yup
Jaybird

What do you use to cook meats/eggs in?? Like fried eggs for example?
adwred

Meat drippings. I always have a bowl of some kind of meat drippings in the fridge from whatever I've cooked last. Right now, it's lamb tallow, but most commonly, it's beef or chicken fat or lard.
Nicola

Adwred and others with cooked meat and fat...

Meat drippings and meat cooked for hours; can you digest that? I mean when golooraam eats raw beef and egg, raw fat's then that is far less trouble for our system then cooked meat and fat. I mean one is also eating a different form of protein and fat when it is cooked; perhaps toxic (well that's the feeling I had when I was eating cooked meat and fat; I didn't feel good about eating that way even if it is the "normal" thing.

Just thought you would like to feel your body after eating cooked meat and fat; but perhaps the feeling is normal for you and I am just looking for ...

I have noticed, that many people say "it's normal, no problem's..." so I just get on with that.

Like to know, you are doing well cooked or raw.

I feel great on both cooked and raw meat and eggs. I haven't noticed a difference between my digestion of the two. I like to alternate, depending on what I'm craving.
Jaybird

I find I feel fine with cooked or raw meat, but only if it's not overcooked I think. I don't enjoy the taste anyway, when meat it is overcooked it can make me feel queasy from the bad taste. Same with eggs...eating cooked eggs, especially like scrambled ones that have been cooked too quickly on too high of heat...can make me gag. My DH made them like that this morning, and I took 2 bites and spit the third bite out it was too gross.

I discovered a surf and turf shop really close to where I live, and it is affordable. They even have sushi grade salmon and yellow fin tuna! Yippeee. I think I will be having some sashimi tonight...I can't wait. Smile. I'm going to the post office and the park, and on the way home I'll be stopping there to get both salmon and yellowfin tuna for tonight.
kayleigh

It depends on how it's cooked and what it is. I prefer raw meat and eggs but I digest cooked meat and eggs just as well. My digestion is so messed up at this point that I know right away if I am having a problem digesting something. I use the drippings from cooked meats and I love pemmican.

The only difference I notice is that eating raw or very rare meat makes me feel "zippy" and cooked meat gives me a more even kind of energy.

This happens with my cats too. I give them raw meat or egg yolks and they zip all around the house until they tire and pass out. I don't do that though....usually. Smile

Ok, I've modified this challenge. I must say it was rather bone-headed of me to try and do a challenge the month of my birthday, what with all the celebrations and the eating of the cheese.

But November? Look out! No cheese in sight. Not a drop of cream. I will prevail. Yup
