New To Raw Need Help and Suggestions PleaseHi everyone, I just found this forum, and am quite excited to have some company, in my pursuit of the proper diet.
I have been eating low carb for about 6 months, and just last week, started raw, after reading Aajonus books.
On Tuesday I had Raw Eggs for the first time since I was a kid drinking protein shakes.
Wednesday, I had raw Tuna, for the first time EVER. (never had sushi before)
Thursday, it was raw Turkey all day.
Friday, it was raw Chicken.
The last two were a bit of a stretch, but overall, no major reactions, like bacteria, or (I hope) parasites.
I have had one problem, that is keeping me from continuing, and I would like to get any and all input.
What I am finding, is that when I eat raw meat, or eggs, even in quantities less than I eat them cooked, they just sit in my stomach. I get a pain similar to having eaten 10 times the volume, and my digestion is shut down for several hours. Some times, I can't eat again for like 5 hours.
I am also finding that I feel like I haven't eaten anything. (feeling hungry, even though I feel stuffed). Low energy is a part of this.
Now, if I go and eat some cooked meat, I instantly feel more energy, and within an hour or so, my stomach feels normal.
It is as if, somehow, the raw meat is almost impossible for me to digest.
Anyone else experience this, and have any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks much,

That's something you mihgt want to ask on the raw yahoo group as well, there is a lot more experience on there.
After I eat raw I often miss that "stuffed" or full feeling that I get from cooked meat and still feel what I will sometimes perceive as hungry, as cooked meat is the one that sits in my gut not easily digesting and creating that FULL feeling. Sort of the opposite from you... I realise it's a mental issue on my part, wanting to feel FULL instead of satiated... so I just eat cooked meat as well as raw when I feel the need. Or when there is nothing fresh around.
I'm sorry I can't be more help, have you thought about either just eating both throughout the day OR maybe easing into 100% raw, if that is your goal) by including gradually increasing percentages of raw meat each day or week? It may give your body time to adjust to the totally different feeling of eating raw food.
If you DO post on the yahoo group and get a response could you copy it into here as well? I'd love to know about it.

Thanks for the reply. My plan is to try to work it in more gradually, I was just surprised at my reaction, since I expected Raw to be more easily digestible.
I think I know what my Accupuncturist is going to say, when I tell her. She will say that it is due to a week stomach/spleen meridian making the cooked food easier to digest.
I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, as I have had a similar experience with raw vegies. I crippled my digestion 17 years as a vegan/raw veg eater a few years ago.

it's so strange.. I can see how raw veggies would be hard on the digestions but raw meat and raw eggs should be so easy... have you tried dairy? Or is that something you want to avoid?

I just ordered some Raw Butter, from California, and I am interested to see if it reacts differently than the regular (non raw) organic butter, I am used to.
I am a bit hesitant to try raw dairy, in fact I think I am less squeamish about eating raw chicken, than raw milk. Also, dairy just doesn't seem that natural to me, from a Paleo point of view.
I have a feeling, once I get feed back from some of the raw dairy proponents, that they are going to say that I need the raw dairy to heal my gut, so that I can digest the raw meat.
Anyway, I am open minded, and am continuing to experiment with this to see if I can figure it out. I also posted on the Yahoo group and will let you know if I get any feedback.

By the way, I just wanted to say, that I read the whole 250+ page thread over on the other forum, and was very bothered by all the thread crashers, and heavy handed moderation, so thanks for putting together this forum. It already seems like a much nicer, friendlier place to be.

Well, I just wanted to update this thread. For now, I am finding that what is working for me, is light cooking. I am now cooking my poultry all the way, but my meat is mostly raw (just lightly cooked on the outside. I am also eating my eggs runny but not raw. My fish, is also mostly raw, and I am eating raw butter. So for now, I have reached a compromise that is working for me.

i have that feeling as well, but when i eat alot of very rare meats, i feel really tired and drained the next day- but then again, i feel very alert and aggressive as well..hhmmm..i also feel a 'tense' sense, like my muscles are somehow ready for action at anytime..thought this is good for certain events in life, i sure do not like it all the time.I have been having a hard time trying to get into an all meat diet again because i get sooo irritable and aggressive on it that i no longer even want to try it anymore..but then again, i never really got in my correct ratios of fats into my diet and we all know how important fats are- though i do eat all of the trimmings and fats on my meats. Cooked meats..sit in my stomach as well and i do get an instant rush as you do..but i am not sure if it's from the L-tyrosine in the meats or what?? bloody blue rare steaks satisfy my hunger and i am quite full for a long time- the only problem i have personally is digesting them...for some reason, they just sit in my lower intestine..i can feel it.
I am still paranoid over parasites as well-eventhough i read parts of an articles on the Primal diet...my belief is still not all the way there on it..

Nomadic Pathways I've been meaning to respond to your post since I first read it but haven't actually had the time to do the research. Baby and all Anyway, I think for that agression and tension Aajonus would reccomend (and so would I based on personal experience) a glass of raw milk. Another question, are you eating enough fats with the meat?
