My New Power Breakfast/power snackI haven't yet moved into eating raw meat (although my steaks are cooked very rare). However, I can handle raw egg yolks, mainly because I can swallow them whole with some water--sort of like a protein/fat/nutrient packed pill!
On weekday mornings when I'm rushed to get out the door, my breakfast is 4 raw egg yolks, 2 TB virgin coconut oil, and then I'll swallow some fish oil caps. This makes me feel great! During my 40-minute commute to work, I get so happy about how great I feel after taking those eggs.
I have even started swallowing a couple of yolks in the afternoon at work to keep me going. Luckily, I have a private office so I can prepare them behind a closed door. I'm not ready to admit to my coworkers that I don't eat any fruits or vegetables and I eat raw eggs! They already think I'm hardcore enough with the low-carb thing. Although, everyone is pretty supportive of that, luckily. (I have been doing this for years and I am a healthy weight. I am also armed with excellent blood-test results from the last five years. It's hard to argue with that! I try not to talk about it much anymore, though.) They all know that I won't be eating the office birthday cakes, and even try to have a low-carb alternative for me. That was usually cheese and veggies, though. What do I do now!

totoro,
I have done a similar thing in the past, and am starting it up again. That is, getting daily smoothies into my diet. In these smoothies I put raw egg yolks, coconut milk and oil, vanilla and almond extract, nutmeg and cinnamon... and some berries. They are very good, and allow me to get these essential nutrient dense foods into my diet. They are also high in fat (86% fat). I am going to try to drink these everyday from now on.
Welcome to the web site.

Hi PaleoDeano,
Thanks! I have actually tried a version your smoothie before, but without the berries. Very good! Have you ever tried freezing the coconut milk in ice cube trays and throwing those in? I think it gives the smoothie a nice consistency. I have to add little water when I do that to get it all blended with my old blender, though.

Yah... I did not mention all the ice cubes I put in these to get it more liquid. The coconut milk and egg yolks make it too thick, otherwise. And without berries, you would need to add even more ice cubes.

I love shakes in the morning! And the tip about freezing the coconut milk is great.
So, which do you think would be better -- coconut milk or whey protein powder (non-sweetened, 1 carb)?

i keep hearing about coconut milk...where in the world do you buy it..do you have to go to the health food store for it..or do you buy it online only?

Karen,
My grocery store (and most) carry it. Asian grocery stores had better carry it. It comes in 12-14oz cans. GREAT stuff... especially for smoothies!

I have to order mine but I live in the boonies. All we have is Wally-World. Our healthfood store is a joke. I catch it on sale at Tropical Traditions.

By coconut millk you mean the liquid that's in coconuts? Why not then buy a coconut and drain it? You could have it free from me, I always throw it out when I am making coconut cream. Now that is a real delicacy!

I'm an idiot. Even I can get coconut milk. I was thinking coconut oil. I'll go back to my corner now and be quiet.

I once bought a coconut and tried to get the "milk" out. I had to take the damn thing outside and crack it open with a frickin' hammer!
THEN... the liquid "milk" was just this clear crap that tasted nasty!
I'll take the nice creamy stuff in the can any day!
I use A Taste Of Thai canned coconut milk. It's really nice and creamy and tastes great! I use it in smoothies. I put a whole 13.5oz can in the 5 cup blender I have.
Here's my basic recipe for smoothies.
12 ice cubes
1/2 cup berries
6 raw egg yolks
1 can coconut milk
6 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp nutmeg
Yah, Suzanne, I too order the coconut oil from Tropical Traditions. They have good stuff for good prices.

It sounds like it could be the coconut water mixed with some of the cream. What does it say under ingredients?

Yes coconut water can be awful. But opening coconuts is relatively easy. You just stick a screwdriver into one of the three dark eyes in the coconut and drain it. You have to find the one that is soft, one always is, the other two are hard. Only then you crack it.

I saw Dean's smoothie recipe at the other place and it inspired me to create a yummy yogurt substitute: thick coconut milk, egg yolks and berries. Yum! Have to eat it with a spoon. Sometimes I put CO in as well, and it forms into little chewy balls.
Once I get a blender, I'll try the smoothie too! So so you drink all that at once?

Why don't you guys eat the egg white raw as well? Why only the yolk?

Saiva, there's something in the egg white that's not good for you when eaten raw. I'll try to find the reference and get back to you.

I'm back. OK, it has to do with the avidin in the whites, which "ties up" the biotin in the egg yolk, making it unavailable to the body. Some people say you shouldn't eat egg whites raw because of this. Others say the avidin only ties up 20% of the biotin, so it's ok.
I guess it's a matter of choice.

Ok, i will try some raw eggs in a shake with coconutmilk and cinnamon tonight.
I think nature intended the white to be eaten with the yolk(I choose to beielieve that the avidin ties up the biotin only in the yolk ). I doubt it that people 15 000 years ago threw away the white.
Thanks a lot BawdyWench!
