instinctual eating...i came about eating all meat/fats out of instincts about 2003- and only now have i questioned it validity.Out of curiousity, how would you eat IF you had to choice to eat anything that you desired? regardless of health and regardless of what study,GURU or doctor said was healthy?
what would your instincts tell you eat? and would you trust in it?
no data, no proof, no studies here..i am talking about whatever you thought, felt was healthy for you..what would it be?
anything? anyone? and what stops you from following this instinct?
me personaly, i feel as if the best diet for me is a balanced one-i don't generally like carbs too much because of the binding feeling i get in my guts as well as the dragging my feet in the mud laziness it brings.I'd eat basicly rare meats and fats, leafy greens ,steamed veggies and salads, soups.Lots of meats and all kinds.Skipping on the processed foods and sugars, though i love my sugar rushes- sometimes the mania it produces is simply too much for me to handle and i can feel it eating up my body like gasoline Processed food? *gag, shit makes me ill. i'd do what i been doing..wake up,work for like 10-12 hours ,fasting- come home- eat a nice fat 35 oz steak, with some A1,butter steamed veggies and a beer to wash it down..that's it.i eat veggies, because it makes me shit thats about it,thats what my instincts are telling me I survived years of that type of lifestyle and it's worked great for me..why change it? what stops me? nothing really..this is still my ideal and one i am likely to follow for a very very very long time.
don't get me wrong, i challenge your beliefs and faith in order to test them.i have no bad intent...

as all fruits used to be very bitter (except some tropical ones) and veggies are bitter too, i would eat meat
humans like sweet things and starches too, but its not availible in the wild

i have also noticed that if i tenderize the meat prior to searing it- it's easier to digest for me.Which is odd ,not like it really matters because we have to chew it and such- but i am wondering if the actual 'tenderizing' method has anything to do with breaking up the connective tissues or muscles making them easier on the gut.I don't know.it's getting chewed up anyways..maybe i just like the texutre

As a kid I always craved protein and fat. I would sometime drink close to a gallon of milk a day. Was it instinct, or addiction? No idea.

did you end up growing into a stocky teenager? maybe your natural bodytype craved calories period- and milk has plenty of it in the form of fat/protein,maybe your body was telling you 'feed me!'.
i naturally crave fattier foods, like pigs feet, fatty beef ribs, ribeye steaks- because i naturally have no cravings for carbs (though i drin sugars soley for the rush and ups and downs i get from them ) i think my body makes up for that craving with fattier foods, maybe it's an inborn survival mechanism.I am naturally lean and muscular- and i noticed i can easily get away with no carbs or sugar, but without enough protein and fat..i feel like i am starving.I also need moderate ammounts of salads/steamed veggies in my system or i'll feel like i am tied up in knots.I notice that a diet of intermitent fasting or fasting all day then eating one large meal works best for me,and that eating smaller meals- even balanced as they may be cause me trouble, bog me down or make me sleepy.when working ,it's best if i don't eat- when excersizing it's best to have some rare meat about 2 hours ahead of time..depending on the physical exertion level..fatty foods a few hours ahead for longer type excersize and high protein for weight training.
personaly , i am starting to think that it's really a no brainer in terms of foods to consume. The way it looks on a plate usually determines how it'll effect the body...if it's tender, juicy and lightly seasoned it's obviously going to digest alot better then something spiced up,hard and rough- yeah , no shit.Thats another reason i prefer steamed veggies as opposed to regular raw veggies-it's obviously going to be harder to digest in the raw form..just look at it,taste it..the body is going to have to break it down first.I also feel that veggies do have their place in diet- it balances things out inside the body IMO.No studies, no research- this is what i feel my body needs.I think that if someone were to eat all meat,it creates an imbalance inthe colon- it dries it out i believe, because of the hardened waste it produces.Veggies, steamed and leafy greens adds a layer of slipperyness if you will to the bowels- the added fiber also makes it easier to pass.i know how i feel, when eating all meat and fats - it bindes me up in knots and hardens my bowels..call it fiber addiction, i don't give a rats ass- it's called being backed up and i don't give a flying fuck what anyone blames it on..it's obviously from an imbalance one way or another and i believe the imbalance comes from a lack of both moisture and fiber in the diet. I don't think you need a ton of fiber a day- but just enough to keep things in balance for your body type.

i really have no problems with this WOE (all meat, no carbs) and i am all for it, though i do have many concerns over it's safety in the long term- i think it's way more helpfull then the standard american diet filled with startches and sugars. My recent reintroduction of red bulls ,starches and it's obvious effect on both my moods and behavior being a strong indicator that something is very wrong with it's consumption in the first place..shit,talk about jeckell & hyde eh??
in contrast to how i feel and how i felt,it's like night and day- hopefully that last episode of sugar rushes ,highs and lows was strong enought to change that habit..
good times..

If I were to go via "instinctual eating", I'd be a balloon.
If I just ate whatever I wanted, I'd pretty much only be eating fruit, bread, and pastry, with a lot of pizza.
Flavor-wise, I don't really care for meat at all. If based solely on what "feels" right to me, I'd do swell on a vegetarian diet, because it is so sugary and delicious. But hey, then there comes all the health problems!

dude, i was speaking in relation to your instincts..are you trying to tell me that your instincts would'nt tell you to STOP EATING if you were gaining unwanted fat?
what does your instincts tell you how to eat healthily regardless of anything that you are told that was good/bad for you?
when embarking on this type of diet origninaly i instinctlvly ate rare meats and fats exclusivly while fasting all day and eating once at night, but then my instincts told me to do more research if i were to continue on that diet..and here i am..

There is no such thing as 'instinctively knowing what is healthy'. There is only acculturation. A person doesn't know what is healthy instinctively. A person learns what to eat from watching what their parents eat and is either positively reinforced by it with a healthy body, or negatively reinforced by an unhealthy one (as many of us here were). And if you had no parents and were raised by wolves? You would eat what wolves eat. And you'd be much better off for it, too.

Nicely put, Red.
My "instincts" would be telling me to eat a large Round Table pizza every night followed by a "side" of spaghetti and meatballs. After that, I would "instinctually" eat for dessert a half pound of See's chocolates.
"Instincts" got people into trouble prehistorically. They tried shit out in the wild, and it killed them, like poisonous mushrooms or plants. After that, I guess their "instincts" just got "adjusted," so that they didn't eat the bad stuff!
It's all learned. Food is learned.

That's not what you asked. You asked what I would eat instinctually but healthfully. Not what I'd like to eat. You did try to ask about our dream 'pig out' foods before and had lots of people asking you not to because it's painful to think of that stuff. Unlike you, I have never been a 'normal' weight before and have never had the luxury of being able overindulge without ending up fat. So when I dream about the food I can't have, I just feel deprived and sad. I don't expect you to really understand that and I'm not saying that in a mean way. Only someone who has been obese understands that sadness of never being able to eat certain things without really serious consequences. Rather, I like to think about the food I can have and love to eat.
Does that make any sense? Please understand that every time you talk about your binges and red bull and all the pizza you like to eat, you're not showing respect to the people who really have to struggle to stay away from those foods because they are toxic to us. Fuck, even talking about it is toxic to me.
Alrighty? Awesome. Now let's move on.

Instinctively but healthfully? For me it's beef. Thick steak, seared on the outside and warm but at least close to raw on the inside, with a thick slab of fat. Top this with salty butter or ghee. Even as a kid, I liked my steak blue. Oh, and bison - I feel FANTASTIC after bison.
If price was no option, I'd also be scarfing down crab and lobster dripping with butter on a daily basis. Alas.
In cold weather, beef stews made from bone broth with root veggies; ground beef and tomato sauce, or a spicy chili with no beans. In warmer weather, chicken with crispy skin and hot sauce; enormous racks of fall-off-the-bone ribs; the odd salad with Caesar or creamy italian or bacon dressing; tomatoes and avocados with lime juice and salt. Also: olives, kefir, roast pork with cracklin', salmon panfried in butter so the skin goes crispy, chicken thighs with homemade tomato sauce, tea with coconut milk, strawberries, and the odd hunk of 75% cocoa chocolate or spoonful of raw honey...oh, and a nice red wine.
Crap. Now I'm all hot and bothered.

Actually, NP, I don't think it's actually possible that we could ever be together. I've read that Red Bull causes erectile dysfuntion. Other symptoms include: an obsession with ones bowels, inflated ego, social retardation and an inability to put spaces after commas.
Sounds horrible... *shudders*

Too late, Brklx. I especially love his completely imbecilic come-back.
And NP, it certainly appears as if I've touched on a sore point, doesn't it? But don't get angry with me, sweetheart. It's not my fault that your ice cream parlour only sells soft-serve. I think there's a support forum for that somewhere.
