I want some raw beef!

I eat my steaks now very rare, but is it safe to eat beef totally raw? Can I boil it for a few seconds? I've been searching but can't find anything definitive.

ok... so I am stuck at work and hungry...

in my experience, the only time I have a tad ill (the runs) from a raw beef was at a cheap vietnamese place that I had on the side with some noodles... but that was minor and just once...

my recommendation is to buy good quality beef from a source you trust and build up slowly... don't consume a ton the first day... cut out a piece raw from what you are cooking and eat that bite raw... increase on a daily or meal by meal basis...

what you can also do is use spice combinations that are have strong anti-septic properties that also add a lot of flavor, I personally use himalayan salt, organic cumin, and organic turmeric...

what I also do for the texture contrast is to cook very fatty shortribs briefly in coconut oil/garlic olive oil to crisp the exterior... again, I don't do this for safety but for flavor... the thinner shortibs (flank style) I just eat raw...

Thanks Golooraam. I love the taste and texture of very rare steak, so I don't think I would have much of a problem moving to all raw. Do you eat your steaks completely raw?

I'm a little nervous because last year I got food poisoning, and it may have been from an undercooked burger or some fish I had. It was very unpleasant, although it shaved off six lbs (mainly barf pounds).

last night I had:

2 tbs raw butter
2 raw organic egg yolks
1/2 lb raw ribeye steak dipped in 2 tbs of tamarind pepper steak sauce (3g carbs)

1 stick organic butter (melted)
1 swig of organic extra virgin olive oil

1 scoop of whey isolate
1/2 scoop of micellar casein
1 tbs of bovine serum

result: 1.3 lbs lighter today
