How do you reach 80:20

I guess I have never really tried to eat 80% fat 20 % protein, but now I must in my efforts to defeat my wife in a weight loss competition.  So if you do eat 80 20 how do you get your fat up.  Is it a matter of eating butter (candy bar style) as I heard one guy put it, or am I missing something.  I know some are able to do 90:10.
adwred

Do you find that you lose better at 80:20? Many people find better weight loss results and more energy at about 60-65:35-40. If you do find 80:20 is better for you, then I have two words for you: pork belly.
Dustyboy

I have never tried you know, I have it stuck in my head for some reason that the best ratio is 80-20.  Perhaps what I have going is fine.  It is just meat, eggs, some butter and little cheese.
Dustyboy

I am at 61/39 for the day and maybe that is for the best.
adwred

If that's what feels natural and you have lots of energy, then do that and see how well you're losing. If you're not losing, you can play with ratios.
Carnation

I do better with mega high fat.  Butter shots, baby.  Seriously, you can knock them back without even tasting it.  Your body will let you know if you're eating too much fat.  The southbound train will be on the fast track.
Dustyboy

I could use a little help in that department to honest.  And it has nothing to do with ZCing either.  It has been a problem for since before I started this woe.

I think that for weight loss the key is find what foods and or ratios you can eat to have the least calories while remaining satisfied.  I think that adding calories via a particular nutrient past that point just to make ration is counterproductive.

Pretty much, first satisfy your protein needs then add as much fat and/or protein as is necessary to make Dusty a happy camper but not much as keep him a fat and happy camper.

The higher fat% seems to be working best for me though as it tends to encourage occasional intermittent fasting.

I figure as long as I am eating meat, eggs and a little cheese I will drop quickly.
Avalon

Coconut oil will help and plain old raw egg yolks. Ditto on the Pork belly.

OOH! make HOLLANDAISE TO DIP YOUR STEAK IN! That's yolk, butter, with a dash of lemon and salt! It's delicious! You'll wipe it clean! Whatever it is  Yup
Dustyboy

I keep hearing about coconut oil, what do you do with it? Cook with it? Drink it?
Avalon

A lot of people cook with it. They also put it in smoothies, but if you're not eating any fruit... I don't know meat and coconut smoothie?  Shock  It really is very easy to just take a tbsp of it or drink it from a shot glass.

I haven't had it for a long time now, but when i was on the Wai Diet I used it quite often.

How about meat curry cooked with coconut?
adwred

If you notice nausea, stomach discomfort, rashes, bad moods or any other symptom associated with it, discontinue use! But yes, curry is a great thing to start off with coconut oil, as the taste compliments the dish. Not so much with scrambled eggs, for example.
Viking Dan

I used to just throw coconut oil in my coffee.
woof_woof

The real question is how and why not to eat at least 80% fat if you are lucky enough to have lots of edible animal fat around.
If you don't crave fat it means you are doing something wrong. It's that easy.

I eat as much as I can from the meat that I am eating but the more meat the more protein, thus knocking off the 80:20 ratio.  I eat three eggs fried in three tables spoons of butter with a slice of cheese and two ribeyes, that I carve my self so that they have as much fat as possible, which leaves me with the ratio above.  I will throw back some butter shots too just to see how that goes too.

Dude, I actually quit coffee! I am not sure how I did that.  It was making me kind of sleepy (I had ADD as a kid and they gave me rittalin which is just speed for kids, but for some reason it calm and quited me).  I decided to cut back a little the next thing I knew it had been days since my last cup.  I am caffeine free.

I have also stopped eating bacon!  Can you believe that?  I not really sure why even though Red has explained it to me a couple of times but apparently it is bad and I just stopped.  I think I might have superpowers.  I quit caffeine, bacon and I smoke a cigar when ever I feel like.  I never "have to" smoke a cigar or my pipe, which the kids prefer.

I didn't tell you to stop eating bacon, did I?! Shock  Shock  Shock  I said bacon is like the junk food of meat (like meat candy!) and should be eaten only occasionally. Especially the ones with additives and preservatives.

You definitely should either look for an organic one without nitrates/nitrites to have here and there as a nice treat, or find a source of fresh pork belly, which you can (no - should) eat every day at every meal for eternity. Yup I say this because you'll want to after you try it.
Dustyboy

I am a simple, simple man with a simple little brain.  And all I heard was "bacon bad, no eat the bacon" and I quit it.  I have been frying my eggs in butter as you suggested which is much better than in the bacon grease and I am happy place with no variety.  I don't need variety or treats.  Treats only encourage me to look else where for food which will lead right back Oreos I know this road I have been down it before.
adwred

How sad. Sad
Dustyboy

No not sad, happy place.  I love my rut.  I will be like that old guy they found in the nursing home eating two dozen eggs a day at age 98.  And you know what else is screwed up I don't like anyone else's cooking.  I can't go out for a steak because in my mind mine are perfect and every thing else is a waste of money.  I also cannot eat eggs someone else made it disgusts me.
adwred

OK, now I want to try your steak and eggs if no others compare!
Dustyboy

I am serious, they are that good.  They have to be its all I eat right?  O.k. I have to come clean here I do eat omelets from the waffle house on deadline days because I am too busy to cook in the morning and they are very good.
adwred

I went to a waffle house once while visiting an old boyfriend's family near Cincinnati. In fact that was quite a food experience trip. I tried chicken fried steak, biscuits and sausage gravy, White Castle, Skyline Chili and Waffle House all in the same week. Needless to say, I gained some weight on that trip. It was an American immersion.
Dustyboy

The girl on your avatar, she eats biscuts and gravy. I am sure of it.
adwred

I expected sausage gravy to be amazing. It was sickatating. So gelatinous and WHITE. OMG gross. It wasn't gravy at all. I'm used to a different sort of gravy.
Dustyboy

"sickatating" hunh?  Thats the way it is here, thick.  Now when they talk Potein or however you say it, is it not a thick gelatinous gel type substance poured over the top of it?
adwred

No! It's thin, like a sauce. Gravy here is a dark brown beefy-flavoured thickened sauce. Not something that looks like vanilla pudding with sausage chunks in it. Laugh Poutine is so delicious - you have no idea. Chips (french fries) covered in squeeky-fresh cheese curd and then gravy poured over to melt the cheese. *orgasm*
Avalon

The Road to Oreo!

Brilliant!

Happy
Dustyboy

Thank you Ava, yes the road to Oreo is short well worn path in my life.
Dustyboy

We have the brown beef gravy as well but it is reserved more for potatoes.
Dustyboy

I have another question.   Is keto adaption a myth?  As many times as I have backed up and taken a running start I have never reached this goal.  Do you have to be super strict or are my genetics the problem?
adwred

Can... open... worms... everywhere...
Dustyboy

If I eat the worms can I get keto adapted?

O.k. so I assume this topic has been throughly covered in past posts.  Say the word and I will just look back through them.
adwred

No, it hasn't, but you'll get very differing opinions. I think you can keto-adapt, but only under very special circumstances.

Sounds like you already have your own answer, though, judging from your experience. Yup
Dustyboy

O.k. I can deal with that.

ROTFL
Kristi31

Hey guys,

SO I just wanted to let you know that since substantially lowering my fat, I've been feeling better, in fact MUCH better. Eventually, I will probably have to increase my fat but for the moment, have not much need for it or don't crave it that much.

Most of my symptoms are gone or slowly improving. I expect my weight to go down and ketones are less. Keto-adaptation is NOT a myth, in my opinion. If ketones spill out in your urine, it's either because you are eating too many carbs, are not adapted which takes a few weeks at most or you're eating too much fat, hence excess ketones. The latter was my case.

I think a ratio of 60-65:35-40 is about right, as Red mentioned earlier. Perhaps, for more active people, higher fat is needed. I'm not sure.

Right now, I'm mostly eating protein but like I said, I'm sure things will settle down and fat will increase. For now, my body seems to be getting all the fat it needs from inside my body. Everytime I increase fat, I gained weight. It makes sense now.

I'm keto-adapted, I just didn't know and was eating WAY too much fat.

Why are you sure of this if things are going well?

Best wishes,
Avalon  Happy
Kristi31

Because I don't see myself eating mostly protein indefinetly with very little fat. That is called rabbit starvation and overkill. Eventually, my body will crave fat.
Avalon

Thank you, but I get lost in the facts that Stefansson, Kwasniewski and others, suggest that higher fat is best and yet you are doing better on lower fat, and expecting a return to higher fat and that confuses me a little.

And believe me I'm nowhere near where you are. But I'm interested just the same. How will things change later?
