Home equipment recommendations

If you had to choose your top 5 most valuable pieces of home exercise equipment, what would the be? Oh and does anyone have a recommendation for a particular brand of chin-up bar?

well if you're looking for cheap,  go to the hardware store and buy a piece of pvc tubing cut to the width of your door and 2 little squares of wood, cut a chink or a U in each piece of wood that fits the bar, then hammer the pieces of wood onto the inside of your doorframe.  Lay the piece of tubing in the U and you have a chinup bar for cheap.  You can do it all at home if you have a saw, but I find hardware store men to be very accommodating.

after that I like an exercise ball (sorry I know you don't like clutter) Dumbells that have weight plates, parallelettes, and elastic bands, you can get very heavy duty ones, and a barbell for the weight plates too.

Seriously, do a search for bodyweight stuff.  You can do way more than you'd imagine, it's all about the load on the muscle, not how much you're picking up.

Men make great punching bags.  Laugh

I used to have dumbbells with weight plates, but we gave them away when we downsized our living space. I wish we hadn't now that I'm using that sort of thing so often. Why do we always get rid of the things we need and hang on to the junk???
barb0324

That's why I hang on to everything. Yup
ReddyMcMeaty

That is funny, where do you keep your stuff Barb?  I do see you as a sentimental keeper of things, but also as having a beautiful and uncluttered home.  So?
barb0324

I buy big houses .... and hide things in the closet! Laugh
ReddyMcMeaty

that is the hardest thing here, not having closets.  Who made up that rule?  I don't know how Germans live without closets, it just re enforces some opinions I have of them....
Carnation

Guess you can't have skeletons in your closet if you don't have a closet, right?
ReddyMcMeaty

no they're just all over the damned floor for everyone to see!

Seriously.  I just want some closets to throw my shit into until I can get to it, since it tends to pile a little before I take care of things.
barb0324

Yes, I miss walkin closets over there ... all they have is Einbauschraenke. They do hold a lot of junk too.  Isn't it amazing how everyone's living room is a carbon copy of the others?

Closet space at my house is an issue. As in, there is none. I had to buy a little armoir from Ikea just to hold part of my (what I think is a) rather small wardrobe. And shoes? Forget about it!

The best setup I've ever had was a power cage, bench, olympic bar, and plenty of plates.  I could do any exercise I needed to do with that, and it didn't take up too much space.

In "From the Ground Up" (an excellent, free ebook), Dan John says all you need is a bar, weights, and maybe a couple of sawhorses.   Wink

Go to www.rosstraining.com and buy a copy of 'Never Gymless' that's all you'll need if lack of equipment or space is an issue.

That having been said, I'd say a pullup bar or pullup/dip station (I don't have one currently, but would like one at some point) and a couple JumpStretch bands is a good start for torturing yourself.

Oh, fuck...
Weighted vest too.

I have....

-Power rack
-Adjustable bench
-Olympic bar w/ weights
-Treadmill
-Hyperextention bench

Everything works great. I'm mostly into incline walking with ankle weights and compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, incline bench along with sit-ups and hyperextentions.

While two of them are not exactly a "home" pieces of equipment, my top three pieces of equipment in order of actual amount of exercise are:

My Bicycle.
My Shoes.
My Girlfriend.  Evil

-E
Viking Dan

If I had to limit myself to 5 things and space was an issue...

1. Bodylastics Exercise bands (max tension set can go up to 70 lbs. per limb)
2. Portable Chin Up Bar
3. Lifeline Jungle Gym
4. Rubber Chest Expander
5. Inflatable Exercise Ball (would rather have a bench, but this is better than nothing.)

Thanks for all your input, everyone!

I believe there is a Perfect Pullup

I have the Perfect Pushup, and it is fantastic
Viking Dan

This is a decent chinning bar for the price. Sturdy with multiple grips.
