Gallstones are caused by low fat diets.
The main stimulant for the gallbladder is fat. Eat little or no fat and you produce very little bile. Your gallbladder may get impacted with stones due to the lack of flowing bile.
When you start eating more fat the liver starts producing more bile (one of the reasons cholesterol levels may rise from eating fat is because it's a component of bile) and the gallbladder gets more stimulation, the stones that have been sitting in there for several years during low fat eating then get pushed out and may cause discomfort, pain and get stuck.
Today's lesson: Eating lard everyday keeps the gallstones away.

If you get your gallbladder removed, do you have to eat a low fat diet? I went to the gastro today and they think there is something wrong with my gallbladder and I'm getting an ultrasound on it tomorrow. I'm worried that if I have to get it removed, I dont want to be forced to eat low fat.

My dad says he can eat more than his doctor said he could. The liver does produce bile, so you would probably have to eat less or more frequently or something...I don't know.

I know several people who are doing LC without a gallbladder. Often they just need a little more time to adapt. Eating smaller amounts several times per day seems to work. Sipping cream.

thanks everyone...whew I was afraid I would have to do ornish or something well i dont even know if its my gallbladder thats giving me issues or not, so hopefully its not the case.
Right now my family is giving me crap about the high fat diet anyway and it doesnt help that I've gained weight (because of other issues I was having with overeating because of the stomach problems & PB), but now they are like..see I told you so!! It's so irritating!

Bear's got a broad facial structure and neck. I wonder if it was that way before years of low carb?

Is it just me, or do they both have enormous ears??
I guess ear-size must not be related to diet.

This thread's old, but I gotta tell ya, Ornish don't look like that NOW. That's an old picture.
I had my gallbladder removed, and I can eat plenty of fat....just have to not eat a HUGE amount at one time. I eat 3 meals a day and plenty of fat each meal, no problems.

I don't look like I used to either

A think I felt my gallbladder yesterday. I ate a LOAD of butter and two fatty steaks for dinner. Probably 200 g fat in that meal. A while after my meal I could feel this stabbing type of pain just under my right ribcage. It was nothing too serious and went away after a few minutes. Afterwards I felt fine and did not get any digestive problems at all.

Did anyone catch the multi-part Ornish interview on Jimmy Moore's podcast? Ornish just drove me crazy all the way through. He had no information or explanation for anything, no account of the mechanisms of how anything works. Just kept repeating his "studies" that supposedly show his ridiculous eating plan to be the best thing since sliced bread. Wait a minute -- it really is the best thing since sliced bread, because that's one of the worst dietary developments you can name!

Hi Meg, for clarification purposes, and I am a puzzle of pieces, I meant the horrid lines on my face I'm going to have to make them work for me somehow, design wise, because if I'm at all like my Mother, it's in the facial wrinkle department. From having smoked? Gaining/losing weight?
And I hear you It's a journey for sure

That's why gawd made photoshop. I make a some good cash erasing other people's facial lines.

Now how to do that in Real Life ehh, cheaply and very little pain

I wish the BRIGHTNESS option from photoshop worked IRL too!
LOTS of people could use a brightness increase
