Finally losing weight...with carbs!?Just thought I'd post an update on myself but it looks like it belongs in the naysayers section now lol.
Anyways after getting my thyroid TSH down to 1.634 (from just changing my diet, no meds) I am now attempting to lose all the weight I've gained over the winter/early spring. I do weight training now 3x week and just walking everyday (no hardcore cardio like running).
I've been experimenting with low/zero carb on off days (from weights) and more carbs (90-120g) on weight lifting days. Whats funny though is that I've been tracking my weight each day just to see how carbs/no carbs affect the fluctuations, even if its just water, and the scale does not move after zero carb days, but it drops a good amount after my carb days.
This baffles me because I know carbs hold more water, but also I feel like 100% crap on zero carb days - no energy, nothing, and on carb days I feel like I could run 10 miles and I'm happy and energetic. Both days are deficit calories, zero carb days are slightly bigger of a deficit just because im not trying to get in a certain amount of carbs, so its not like I'm gaining muscle (my main goal right now is fatloss). Which makes it even more surprising that the scale does not move after a zero carb day. The only explanation I can think of is the slow down in metabolism from having no carbs, but who knows. Both days are the same amount of protein, more or less.
Weight aside, I do like the way I feel MUCH better on carb days, energy and mood wise. Maybe because I eat a ton of bananas and they seem to make me happy And oatmeal too. (I thought Avalon might appreciate this
Anyways its an experiment to me so I'll see how it goes but so far I've lost about 7 lbs since the beginning of the month and I've got about 18 more to go

I'm glad you're getting things figured out. But do keep in mind that when the weight drops on the scale doesn't really matter. If you lose a pound overnight on the scale it doesn't mean you've actually burned a pound of fat overnight, obviously. You're burning fat every day - it's just that some days it will show up on the scale and some days it won't.

I don't think your metabolism slows down that fast, from day to day.

yeah I know day to day fluctuations are not the best but i couldn't help but notice a trend, and I've been tracking for it for a good 3 weeks so I'm looking at the overall picture.
I do know that less than 50g of carbs per day WAS shown to slow down T3 conversion drastically, so maybe that has something to do with it.
All i know is that I'm losing more weight now with carbs than I was when I was completely fasting or doing zero carbs exclusively.

Thanks!! I do brush more often now that I'm eating carbs again Although I try to avoid all sugars except for fruits. I take it you've experience a root canal? Ouch! I've heard those are painful!

Last week
Truthfully, there was little pain, but afterwards there's this dull horrible hellish feeling and the knowledge that you've just amputated your tooth. Ta Dah!

One of the reasons I avoid carbs.

I don't believe my root canal was caused by eating carbs
Possibly years of bulimia however

ouch! sorry to hear about that, that sounds bad. I did get my wisdom teeth cut out 4 years ago but I was so drugged up I actually never felt pain...I felt better than I do normally!!
I had a professor last semester who would eat a whole hersheys bar (BIG size) everyday before class (and he was over 70!) then one day he told us he found out he needs a root canal. I was like geez...i wonder why!

My gums were bleeding today and I was baffled by this...no carbs and problems with gums??? Can't be, I told myself. Get some vitamin C, that'll fix it up real quick.
Ok...no more posts about C. Promise!

Nah your vitamin C posts are welcome! Thanks for reminding me about it since I think I have been suffering some vit C deficiencies too. I'm going start supplementing with it again. I used to take it all the time when I was running competitively about 3 years ago.
