Don't rely on theBear so muchI've noticed that every once in a while, somebody will post something like, "Bear says this," as if it was the word of the one and only true God.
Be more skeptical. I find much of theBear's postings very interesting. And most of it is completely unsubstantiated.
Use what theBear said as starting points for your own self experimentation. Not as unquestionable dogma.

I entirely agree. I research constantly and Bear is only one source. I go almost entirely by his experience with carnivory, not by his statements about bodily functions, which I agree are sometimes questionable.
If anything, this latest thread (http://activenocarber.myfreeforum.org/ftopic846.php) reveals that Bear, at the very least, is not always consistent (percentage of fat intake).
I still value him as a resource, considering he's the only one I know of with 47 years of experience on the diet we share. And I really do agree with his race car theory. I don't have to understand every detail (I never will and neither will anyone else) - I just have to find the right path to health and stay on it.

We are quite democratic on this forum- it is your choice now. Crucifixion. impaling or burning at a stake. What will it be?

I still haven't laid my hands on Fat of the Land by Stefansson, but if you read any of his other stuff and the book by Richard Mackarness you'll see that Bear is basically just reiterating what Stef and Mackarness had to say. It's just basic ketogenic diet stuff.

I've got access to some of Steffanson's other work, and the very least, he didn't agree with everything Bear is reiterating. For instance, the most common method of eating fish wasn't eating it raw(though breakfast was most certainly almost always raw/frozen), but boiling it. In fact, the majority of the protein food the Inuit ate was boiled or cooked by some other method, the exception being blubber or fermented products. Which brings me to my next point, Bear said that ALL salt was bad for the body, because it was a chemical. Normal table salt is(sodium chloride), but the Inuit boiled their food in soidum(and mineral) rich waters, and the boiled off water was almost always consumed, usually by mixing in seal blood(which happens to be another rich source of nutrients, much richer than muscle meat typically).
I think Bear is a vast source of knowledge, and his way of eating is a good starting put, but it can be improved upon as well.

I have just received it and started reading it. I also just received the book by Richard Mackarness, so that'll be the next. I already finsihed Blake Donaldson's Strong Medicine, so I'm getting there. The latter does advocate fatt meat, but isn't talking about 80/20 ratios.
Now apply what I learn to my own life, and carfully consider the effects of each change, then I should get there one day.
I was surprised reading in the Bear quote that when you need to lose weight, 50/50 was a better ratio than 80/20, so am trying that now.
Will report in if I come across anything exciting or new.

I think we all need to read and study as much as we can, listen to the experience of others [like the Bear], work out what you think is appropriate for yourself, and then especially listen to your own body very carefully!
I have discovered that I just NEED steak on this WOL, yesterday I had fish for lunch and pork for dinner, and I just felt weak. Of course that also was a result of my crazy workweek so far, but still, I felt a LOT better after I had a modest steak around 8 pm.

really? i didnt realize the Bear said that about the 50/50! hmmm. That makes more sense to me than 80/20 while in weight loss mode!

Bear mention 50/50 as the maximum protein ration to be eating. I still think 60-80% fat is the preferred ratio.

DAIRY? EGGS?Neither Stefanson nor Blake Donaldson advocate eating dairy products which The Bear eats plenty of. I'm not saying don't eat dairy -- I'm just saying that Stef specifically requested that NO DAIRY OR EGGS be allowed during his year-long documented experiment. Donaldson specifically referes to eggs and dairy as highly allergenic "new foods" and eliminated them for many patients.

thebear made some statements that really are absurd
like there is no acetone on an all meat diet, there is
or that you never use carbs as fuel, you do actually

I am relying on Stafansson and the other guy, Donaldson?, and also Atkins from his first books, and use the Bear's statements as support from somebody who actually did it for such a long time.
Everybody has to fine tune this to their own body and needs anyway, age, sex, starting weight, general condition, all aspects need to be considered.

I have to wonder if the dairy in Australia where Bear is is just less pumped full of bizarre horomones than the stuff I can (easily) get here.
Ditto on the meat.

well, as an ex-dairy farmer in Australia I can assure you that it is highy unlikely that these things like hormones and antibiotics and such are less in Australia than in the States.
