Cured my depression!!

I have never felt this good in my life. maybe before I hit teenager. I noticed the effects within the first week. No more depression, no more anxiety, no more tiredness and low energy, no more mood swings, no more crashes, no more not being a morning person. I have been through truckloads of doctors and medications that did nothing for me but cost money and time and all I had to do was stop eating carbs. I stopped the doctors about 6 years ago and I've just been accepting my condition. This was so easy, I'm already a natural born enemy of vegetables, I haven't eaten 3 servings in my whole life. I hate them and now everyone that thinks I'm weird for listening to my taste buds can shove it. I feel like my brain is working correctly for the first time. I wake up feeling good and energetic from the moment I stand up. I used to be dead tired and groggy for about an hour or two after I wake up and then I would be tired throughout the day. Now I sleep perfectly and here comes the best part, I've gained an extra 2.5 hours in my day! I can't sleep for more than 5.5 hours without automatically waking up from being fully rested. I used to go 8 hours on average. any less or any more and I'm totally shot. Now I can't even go more than 5.5 if I try. I was so relieved after starting this diet. My brain had gotten so bad before this that I almost dropped out of college, and I used to be the smart kid in school. I had convinced myself that I must have become burnt out from smoking too much pot, just like those stupid commercials warned me. I really felt stupid. I would forget stuff all the time. But now that I've separated the effects of sugars from the effects of pot, all the negative side effects I had once attributed to pot were all from sugar, and now they're all gone. the pot wears off completely in 2-3 hours and I feel just as excellent after as I do before.

I'm right there with you, my depression disappeared when I eliminated carbs.

I still have some slight anxiety issues, that disappeared at first but have come back a little. Social anxiety mostly, but I think this is a learned pattern.

Before I was having serious panic attacks, sometimes I would end up in the hospital hallucinating and screaming that I was dieing, when I wasn't. It was scary and embarassing.

This was a result of my blood sugar.

I think alot of depression is blood sugar related. Screw meds, eat RIGHT!
Benzito171

I agree, my learned behaviors haven't reversed, but the entire physical aspect of feeling depressed and low energy is gone and I experience the social anxiety with much less intensity. I used to just freeze up for no good reason just being around most people, even good friends. I would get too nervous to move a muscle for fear of moving nervously and looking nervous in front of people. Its worst with people I dont know or hang out with and girls. Whatever remaining anxiety I have is nothing like the insanity I used to put up with. This is a major change for me, I haven't been able to honestly say I feel good for about 10 years.

I think you guys have re-inspired me!

I've spent the last year battling the carb demon, trying to be low carb.

I have gone through the worst depresison in my life.

Man if I can get rid of that! Awesome!
Nicola

Try eating raw (meat and inners, fat; marrow) I find that works best for me.
Benzito171

I'm trying to make the full transition to raw but it just feels like I'm going too far when eating socially. I don't think I can sit down at a restaurant and ask the waiter to have them slap a raw steak on my plate. I'm happy with rare and undercooked meat for now. And I like the zero carbs much better than low carb. Low carb is like trying to lose weight while constantly teasing yourself with small amounts of carb that make you just a little hungry for more. Carbs are really an addiction for me and I feel much better to just remove them completely. I think I may put my dog on this diet too. The low stool volume sounds very appealing. And so does the no farting in the car. Just to complete my success story, I've lost 65 pounds in the last 2 months since starting at 425. Zero exercise. My stomach hasn't been bloated or gassy or even overly full when I eat too much meat. I barely farted once this whole time. My teeth haven't built up any tartar since my visit to the dentist. My skin has stopped producing new warts and the ones I had are inflamed and being attacked by my immune system. The bags and wrinkles I had under my eyes are cleared up too. I never get flushed or red in my cheeks and ears anymore. I am told that I stopped snoring. shaving bumbs are greatly reduced.

Everyone on my mothers side of the family has diabetes and or heart problems, and I'm trying to get them on this too. My mother had a stroke at 30 from yo yo dieting on low fat and cheating with lots of sugar. We all need to get as many people as we can on this regimen in order for it to become mainstream and overpower the fda and pharmaceutical companies. Especially doctors, we should tell our doctors about all of these changes and let them look at our bloodwork. Down with the food pyramid!

That's great to hear, Benzito!! Did you go through a difficult adjustment period when you transitioned to No-carb? If so how long did it last? Your progress is wonderful to hear... and welcome aboard!!

Try and eat this (but read it threw first).

If you have money then get your self a alkaline water ioniser.

i had no physical transition i just felt hungry the first two days. but i've been doing low carb on and off for about 10 years with good success but never to my goal without stopping and re-gaining. the first time i did it i was low energy for the first week. i used to see low carb as a diet and i used to think i needed that 20g of carb just to have brain function. now with zero carb this is a permanent change. i cant see myself ever going off completely for any length of time.

about that dog food. i think it says it is 90/10 protein to fat. i would think dogs need more fat than that, but i guess thats much better than 60/30/10 c/p/f in commercial dog food

Laugh Laugh No kidding, who cares about the health part it's nice not to have a stinky dog Happy

Your story is wonderful! It must be so exciting to watch your various conditions fade away into great health!

Thanks everyone. I will keep the forum posted on my success. I started weight lifting with no cardio and I lost another 10 pounds just this week.

The bag of dry food is running low. My normally calm dog acts like he smoked crack when I give him two bites of beef, I can't wait to see him on a raw meat diet. My goal is to look more cut than my pitbull.

Question for the formerly morbidly obese out there. I hear different things about the loose skin issue. What was your experience with it? I've been this big for so long that my stretch marks have stretch marks. Does the skin tighten up eventually? Do you still have it? Will exercise get rid of it? Does it just mean you have more fat to lose?

A little while ago I read the book by Jared the Subway Guy and he stated that younger folks have less of a skin sag problem when they lose lots of weight since their skin still has a lot of it's natural elasticity. He claims that he never had to resort to surgery to fix loose skin after losing 200+ pounds.

BTW, post more pics of the pooch! He's adorable!
Benzito171

thanks, I feel better now. That big monster over there is Hennessy. Give me a minute to figure out how to post more pics.[/img]

Awwww - what a sweetie he is! My former neighbor had Pits, and I was a little apprehensive at first, but they turned out to be the biggest babies, it was almost funny. They look ferocious, but are so sweet natured!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful doggie pics Ben, and I'm following your success updates with great interest, glad you're having so much relief from depression, keep up the good work! Thumbs Up

My experiences with loose skin have not been great, but I think that's mostly genetic and the fact that I'm female working against me. Men don't seem to have nearly the same problem. Also, I lost weight on a low-calorie diet, not a zero-carb diet and a high fat diet tends to do wonders for skin elasticity. Low-fat doesn't provide the right nutrients for skin to shrink and insulin also has a negative effect on the skin's ability to bounce back. You should try to eat food with lots of collagen, which will provide extra insurance - bone broth, pig skin, etc. Your skin will probably be just fine. Yup

Oh god, that is a great dog! Wow, he's so beautiful.

Nice comforter, too. I like the color. Yup

Okay, confession: I totally want to climb on that bed and spoon-snuggle Hennessy! He's so damn adorable! Just, um... don't tell anyone. It'll ruin my reputation! Laugh

Do you think your fangs will scare him, Cavemate!?

Cavemate, do you have a dog? I remember spooning with my dog, he wouldn't let anyone else do that but me... it's just about the best feeling in the whole wide world! Yup

Alas, no, I don't have a dog. I know what you're saying, though. My friend had a dog that I tried to spoon once and he growled ominously. Maybe I should have given him some ribeye first! Laugh
barb0324

Look at this ferocious animal... I just spent some fun time watching Pitbulls take it from the cat, among other things Laugh Just goes to show it's all about how they are raised, their true nature is sweet and gentle.

woof_woof

Nice dog.
My current dog is 5 years old. All she eats is fatty meat (raw), some cooked liver, egg yolks. Sometimes I let her hunt some small creatures so she eats them. If we hike (like 10 h mountain walk) she may eat a lot of fat (lard, butter).

She was never sick. My only vet bills are for cuts and bruises (she's AST so she's slightly overactive from time to time). Blood work is perfect every time.
I took her from a breeder who feeds all his dogs raw meat only.
thegreatmcgonigal

Ha ha, like everybody else, I love your doggy!
