I am in the 1800-2000 calorie range. I find that maintains my weight perfectly.

If I were eating that much, I would not be relaxed, nor maintaining. Laugh

Right now, I'm probably not consuming much. Upping my fat intake has really cut my appetite.

Hi Awdred

Yeah- I kind of feel like I am in a bit of a sweet spot right now.  Happy
I am eating really well- not going hungry-  and doing OK- my body fat is in the normal range.

Sure I want to be leaner- bodybuilding type of lean- but am still fairly satisfied by where I am at.
I do not want go into any uncomfortable deprivation dieting- yuck- I have been there too often in my life.

It is a relief to eat freely and not worry about gaining weight.

Nola, what are your ratios like, if you don't mind me asking. And how many lbs of LBM do you have? I'm still trying to find my dietary sweet spot!

Hi Awdred

I dont know my exact ratios, but they go something like this

For 3 days I eat low carb;  about 40-50 gms a day
                                       around about 120-140gms protein
                                       all the rest fat
                                       3000-3500 cals a day

so on these days  ( i just did a rough number crunching);
i am eating about 80% fat
about 5% carb
15%  protein

think i did it right!?

i tend to heavily calorie load at the beginning of the day
i eat about 5-6 times a day

Then on the fourth day I have a half carb day.
So for the first three meals I eat 500 cals of nearly all carbs each meal .  All low-fat too.
Probably about 300 gms carbs in that lot
Then for the last three meals I eat protein and fat and low carb veges ;  but at lower fat ratios than normal.  More like 50-60% fat.
On these days I eat about 2800 cals.

That is my program
I have been doing this for 2-3 months now
I have not gained- and have  even lost a pound or two, (I do not weigh - but tell from clothes and muscle definition how fat I am).

I am thinking of changing things around so my body doesnt get in a rut- not sure how yet though..

I do not know how much LBM I have
6 yrs ago when I had bodyfat testing; I weighed 64.5 kg and tested at 16.5% body fat.
I am probably at a similar amount of LBM now.
I will have to do some number crunching to figure it out.
I have done resistance training for many years and I do think this has a lot to do with tolerating more calories.
I train heavy and hard- not for toning- more bodybuilding style.
I am naturally endomorph- getting fat easily..

I have in the last 8 mths , started to do less cardio. It has not seemed to have negatively effected my weight.
Rob Poulos says doing cardio in the fat-burning zone trains your body to hold onto fat (as a resource) , for the next session (of fat-burning cardio).
I think this is probably very true. KInd of funny too!

I have been in the diet wars since I was a teenager (12),  so I am not naturally gifted with a good metabolism.
I did a lot of low calorie dieting (at times) which annihilated my metabolism  at times , and caused very bad weight rebound.
It has taken me many yrs to try and find balance and a good place with weight and diet and exercise.
I dont know if I have it all down yet- but I have learnt alot.

Probably more info than you needed!
I do really empathize with weight/diet  struggles though.

Well if you're 16.5 % bodyfat, then you certainly have figured it out! That is an amazing accomplishment! Makes me hopeful. Yup

Hi Awdred

I am not 16.5% BF right now- probably 20% at a guess.
I just have about the same muscle as what I did then..

I think calorie cycling/zig-zagging , and a bit of carb cycling are good techniques to use.
Helps to shake the body up and not allow it to get too adjusted to what you are doing.

And following the bodies intuition..

I think that when a person has dieted a lot the body learns to quickly adjust to what they are doing- and therefore results become lesser.
So you have to get smarter at changing things around a bit on a regular basis.

Lowering calories significantly for any length of time  is a killer for the metabolism in my experience.

My main goal now is to get to a  leaner weight without lowering calories in any significant way- or going hungry.
I dont know if it is possible- but I will try
Always when I have got very lean in the past it has been from calorie restriction and over-exercise;  which ends up with rebound weight-gain sooner or later; let alone a miserable quality of life from being hungry and tired..

My experience has been exactly the same and I'm really hoping to avoid it, too. Thanks for sharing the details of your diet!
