adventures in eating

well i'm back from my alaska cruise and driveabout. i found you cannot go on a cruise without eating crap. oh sure, you have this idea that you will stay VLC and you try to make choices like eggs and meat, but you don't even know what they are putting in that. the eggs were alien, and the meat always had some saucy enhancement. plus, the situations just don't lend themselves to staying on plan. when you are gonna be out in extreme cold and rain hiking all day, you are gonna eat what they serve you, and if breakfast is continental....you're gonna eat it, a lot of it. plus coffee.

the weird thing is, i got away with it. i am EXTREMELY food sensitive and hypoglycemic, but i was taking in coffee, bread, and sweets daily. i didn't  have any episodes of hypoglycemia, which is crazy! at home i can't have a couple sips of coffee or a sliver of dessert without crashing soon after.

my conclusion is that when you are in extreme cold and/or exercising a lot you can probably get away with a lot more foodwise. i don't think hours of exercise daily is good or natural though, and that is why it might require extra carbs. i found it hard to do it without sugar. on days when i tried to eat low carb, i was so worn out and slow. on days when i had croissant with honey for breakfast and brownies and coffee with lunch, i had much more energy. however, that energy was promptly used and that is the point. if i did that at home, i would have a serious hypo crash.

i did bring back 9 extra pounds, which shocked me, because i wasn't eating that terribly much and was burning a lot of calories. i was thinking i might lose weight! ....not!

now to the task of getting rid of my souvenir blubber.

Maybe it is muscle? You were getting lots of exercise.  Happy

you sir, are a gentleman!

but alas, muscle isn't that squishy...and so centrally located! i have been having the hardest time letting go of the coffee again now that i am back. i guess the rule for me is i can tolerate it if it is followed by activity that will make use of the adrenaline it triggers. but now that i'm back to laying about the couch in phoenix, the caffeine again overwhelms me.

I hear superman pushups are good for burning off adrenaline. Get to it, CC!
