I try not to be a conspiracy nut, but I do not understand why a diabetic would be put on a high carb diet.  After being diagnosed and told that I would take meds for the rest of my life I discovered the Bear's post and quick gained control of my blood sugar.  When I confront the "dietitian" I was assigned and asked why I was not told this at least as an alternative she said "some people have trouble sticking to low carb diets".  After a couple of months I went to my doctor, told him that my blood sugar had been in the eighty's  for more than a month and that I was not taking my meds any more he was flabbergasted and said "If you take the pills you can eat what you want and they will help you lose weight."  I told him "no thanks"

I find most diabetics I come in to contact with have bought into this line of thinking.  I try to help them and tell them what I do and they say "but I like chocolate cake and I can have it if I take my pills."  That is what a child would say.  Grow up!  You screwed up and now you are sick, at least take some responsibility and stop your downward spiral before you have to give your self a shot everyday for the rest of your life.

Sorry for the rant I am just a little frustrated with all the misinformation

Dear Dusty,

As with many things, things aren't always as they seem. The fact that you have broken away from mainstream ideology is a testament to this. But even as you think you know what is what it may not be what you think. I'm being very serious. Many people have gone on the McDougall program as Diabetics and have not had the issues you are concerned with... and it might be as simple as it is here- don't futz with the food! In a recorded conversation with Dr.McDougall, Dr. Atkins complimented Dr.McDougall on the evidence of the diets work. Again, define your version of high-carb? Do you mean bags of potato chips and candy? Or a Mashed potato, because they are not the same.

I totally agree with the meds problem! My Father is pr-diabetic and they've got him on meds- yet, he's still eating chocolate pudding and rice pudding and cake and pie and chocolate bars!!! Like oh, I'm taking the medicine so it's okay Roll Eyes

And before anyone bitch slaps me and says, I won't convince anyone here of anything, that's not what I'm doing. I'm simply stating that there may be more than you think you know. Just like I believe in Ketosis because I lived it. I know there's more going on than just one side of the story.

Besy wishes,
Avalon  Sunny
