I am not being dramatic BUT it really has given me a quality of life I never thought I would see. I have lupus and type 2 diabetes. I am now medication free! I have no pain in my joints and before I was always in pain. I had days I could not get out of bed due to the fatigue. Opposite now.

I know i've said it to you a bazillion times... but that is so awesome! Smile

That just makes me tingle that changing a person's diet can impact their health SO MUCH!

My uncle (dad's brother) has been an insulin dependent diabetic for over 30 years. He was having back problems for awhile, and saw a chiropractor. Then it got terribly bad, and my aunt made him go to a different chiro. The new one decided to take an xray (the previous one hadn't) and found two cysts on the part of his spine not facing the outside (so they were never seen).

He was feeling ill, and they hospitalized him as he had a staph infection. His health turned terribly worse, and was in the emergency room. My parents told me that I should go to the hospital and see him, as the doctors weren't sure if he'd live.

He was in intensive care forever (months?) and it took a YEAR for the staph infection to go away, and for him to get somewhat stable so they could finally do back surgery on him.

So far, and probably permanently, he is probably paralyzed from the waist down. He thinks he will get better someday but it doesn't look good. He's in his 60's and his wife had to sell their nice farm out in the country, and buy a small wheel chair accessible house close to a nursing home he has been at because of his needs and for therapy.

And now it looks like she will need to sell that house and move into a residence at a new nursing home, and might have to give up their dog, who is the most wonderful one i've ever met.

I guess my point is that he ate a horrible, crappy diet his whole life, donuts, fast food, cake, cookies, chips, etc, and I can't help but wonder if the past year of this wouldn't have happened if he had watched his diet better. This scares me as they are both retired and all of a sudden have a ton of health bills when they should be enjoying their golden years.

Nonetheless, it has really opened my eyes, and that is why i'm doing all I can to take care of my health.

Although it is a very sad story... thanks so much for sharing. This is the sole reason why I am trying to eat as well as I can. I have never had any real weight issues. But, I don't want to end up like so many who have all these serious health problems. I have had friends die of health related illnesses... one who had just turned 60. I am so grateful to Bear for coming along and slapping so many in the face! Wink

Sherry...That is quite an eye-opening story. I think that when theBear came along he helped a lot of us come to grips with a healthier way of eating. In my case, he validated my preferred way of eating. I'm just about 60, but have a very young daughter and I would like to see my grandchildren from her. I have other grandkids from my two sons, but we are not close and I have never seen them. They are 3500 miles away from me, on the East Coast. My daughter and I have been through a lot of tough times together and I know I have to continue staying healthy for her. We lost her dad last year after caring for him at home for many years. She just turned 19 yesterday.

Thanks for sharing your story...it makes you think, doesn't it?

MissSherry, I know exactly how you feel! My doctor and I have tried three of the newer diabetes medications, and they have all made me swell up like a balloon -- I couldn't go on taking them.
I've only been doing this a couple of weeks, but already my mood is upbeat consistently, where before I was down or indifferent to what was going on around me, and the aches and pains I used to wake up with are all nearly gone -- after only two weeks!
At this point, the weight loss is just a side effect to look forward to, my immediate benefits have given my back my life.
