Hi everyone

Just wanted to hear if anyone has achieved that holy grail (at least for me) of toned abs from being chubby (aka fat)

Over the past 6 years I have lost 40-45 lbs (depending on the day) and still have about 35 lbs to go...

Just wanted to hear something to brighten my mood...

Thank you

I didn't quite hit six-pack territory, mostly by my own doing because I slacked off royally on what I was eating.
Anyhow, here's a bit of a progression of how far I got before I dropped off again.
Eating paleo:

Slacked off and eating basically anything:

Eating one or two meat only meals and one "paleo" meal per day/cranking up exercise frequency:

Unfortunately, I slacked off before I found out just how defined I could actually get and am now currently at about the level of the top pic again.

I've gotten my belly fat down to where I can see my muscles, but am still skinny.

I can't really afford to go to a gym right now, and have been reading alot about self resistance.

It's self resistance just as good? Been doing it for a few weeks and I get alot of burn....but also have heard you won't build muscle mass on it.

I have a lean body, but kinda wanna bulk up a little.

If you work a muscle to failure, it will grow in response. Here are a couple of links to look at:

If you are interested in SR exercise, check out this page if you have not already:

I've been using that very site actually.

I don't do the ab exercises though because they're mostly just stretches. I just do the "air bike" or whatever for 15 min. or so, that gets my abs to burn really well.

Only been doing them for about a month though. I do two days off in between upper body and lower body.

So if you're not lifting weights, as long as the muscles hurt you're going to build mass?

That's a matter open to debate by many. Some, like Shen, say you can build mass and some of the pics of others on his site do seem to bear that out. Others will say that since you are providing the only resistance, you're only going to build mass and strength to a certain degree. I tend to fall in the latter camp in that I find I can maintain and make some strength gains with SR, but I can't build huge amounts of either without either weights or progressively harder bodyweight calasthenics.
I view SR, like most anything else, as another tool in the box that has it's effective purpose at times.

If you are only looking to add some mass and strength (i.e. more toned or athletic looking physique), I would think SR might serve the purpose. If you want Brock Lesnar type muscle/strength, I think you need to add in weights or some other form of resistance.
Just my opinion and your mileage may vary.

Thanks, BLS. You look great, too. Can I ask how old you are? Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

Thanks.
I just turned 36 a couple weeks ago, actually.
As I said before, I am probably somewhere between the top and middle pic currently. Had a bad few weeks.
