You would have to eat 10+ servings of fruit to get as much fructose as those people in that study. Each piece of fruit contains a combination of glucose and fructose (sucrose is already a combination of those), not pure fructose.

also, when on a non-ketogenic diet, fructose preferentially fills liver glycogen which lowers hunger, since part of hunger is affected by how low your liver glycogen is.

I don't know.... I eat almost no carbs, so my glycogen stores would presumably be very low........and I am almost never hungry.  Perhaps that would be true of a carb eater.

ketosis has hunger blunting affects, so if you're in ketosis then I'm sure that doesn't matter.

I don't think ketosis is the reason for lack of appetite but rather the lack of carbs that allow bodily cells to have greater access to fatty acids, hence needing less fuel and resulting in less hunger.

Interesting point, Kristelle.  It makes complete sense to me.

Except that eating oatmeal and potatoes completely blunts my hunger and studies show that oatmeal and potatoes blunt hunger best of all. Maybe it's that stuff that's between all the atoms and stuff  Grin

Blunts your hunger for how long?

Besides, potato and oatmeal are certainly not the optimal food for humans as they deliver few nutrients, contains phytates, lectins (??) and if you ate a potato raw, you would get sick.

I haven't timed it by digital methods, but perhaps I will. Check out the Satiety Index.

Here's the interesting thing, many people do believe the potato is an optimal food for human consumption.

uh oh...

For today, the potato has changed my life. I don't abuse it like I used to and it treats me and my budget very well.

You gotta love it... or, hate it.

I commend you Kristi for exploring your dietary path. You're finding your way as you said. We all are and that's pretty darn cool. The Internet has popped the nutritional bubble, right or wrong, lies and truths and we are free to play in the sand box so to speak, for as long as we feel healthy...

May all of us be healthy  Yup

The End
